The history of the Immortal Regiment in Russia dates back to 2007. Before Victory Day, the chairman of the Veterans Council in the Tyumen region, Gennady Ivanov, saw a strange dream, in which his relatives and fellow countrymen walked along one of the city streets with photographs of war participants.

On the eve of the holiday, on May 8, 2007, an article on this topic appeared in the Tyumen newspaper, and on May 9, Ivanov went out onto the main street of Tyumen with a photograph of his father. His acquaintances, neighbors, and friends supported him. In 2008, more people joined the action more people and then it was called the “Parade of Winners”.

In 2010–2011, similar parades were held in many regions of Russia. In 2012, the action was renamed “Immortal Regiment”. In 2013, the procession took place for the first time on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow, and a year later about 40,000 citizens gathered there.

On Victory Day in 2015, half a million participants marched with portraits of their loved ones at the front through Red Square, led by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Processions of the “Immortal Regiment” took place in Stavropol, Kaliningrad, Vladivostok, Sevastopol, Tyumen, Grozny, St. Petersburg, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Vladimir and other cities. A total of 12 million people took part in the event.

The Victory Volunteers movement on Tuesday sent a notification to the Moscow government about holding the Immortal Regiment march on May 9, expecting that up to 1 million people would take part in the action in the capital. This is stated in the press service of the movement.

According to the organizers of the action, the start time, meeting place and route of the “Immortal Regiment” will remain unchanged this year. “Participants will gather at the Dynamo metro station from 12:00, and the movement of the column will begin at 15:00. The procession will again pass through Red Square, and then split into 2 streams (one will go along the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge, the other along Moskvoretskaya Embankment) “The action will end, according to the organizers, by 19:00,” the press release notes.

“For us, volunteers, the Immortal Regiment is the most expensive and important event. Here in Moscow, last year, 2.5 thousand volunteers took part in organizing the procession. This year the figure is the same, although there are more and more people willing” ,” said the head of “Victory Volunteers” Olga Amelchenkova.

Public service centers “My Documents” will again print photos for the procession for free

You can contact one of 128 public service centers, which are located in every district of the capital (125 districts of Moscow, as well as 2 for residents of the Novomoskovsky and Troitsky administrative districts), open seven days a week, 7 days a week from 8.00 to 20.00.

In 2010, Deputy Mayor of Moscow Shevtsova came up with the idea of holding a parade in the capital with photographs of front-line soldiers. Thus, on May 9, 2010, the “Heroes of Victory” procession took place. This idea was supported by 5,000 Moscow residents. After 2013, the action began to gain momentum.

In 2017, the Immortal Regiment in Moscow had more than 850,000 members. This event became part of the Victory Day celebrations, a kind of new tradition.

The organizers of the procession say that this year on May 9, the columns of the “Immortal Regiment” will consist of more than 1 million citizens. This only means that the memory of the departed heroes of the Second World War does not fade.

Those who decide to participate in the “Immortal Regiment” event this year need to go to the Official website of this event and check there the time and place of gathering of participants in a particular city.

Russia celebrates the 73rd anniversary of the victory on Wednesday, May 9 Soviet troops over the Nazi invaders. In addition to military parades dedicated to the holiday, the regions are also hosting the “Immortal Regiment” event; up to a million people are going to take part in it in Moscow.

The Immortal Regiment is a procession of people with photographs of front-line soldiers and home front workers during the Great Patriotic War. Without the memory of the past there can be no peaceful future - this is the motto that guides the organizers and participants. The procession always causes awe and trembling, because it shows firsthand the countless number of those who laid down their health and lives in the name of protecting the Motherland from the enemy.

Participation in the event is voluntary and free. There is no need to register in advance - you can register on the website if you wish. Also this year, the promotion service publishes user stories about heroic relatives.

The gathering will begin from noon to one o'clock in the afternoon and will last until 15:00 - the procession column is expected to be divided into 25 sectors. About 40 volunteers will be assigned to each of them. Participants will have to walk along Leningradsky Prospekt, 1st Tverskaya-Yamskaya, Tverskaya, Manezhnaya and Red Squares. Next, the columns will be distributed to Moskvoretskaya embankment and the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge. The procession is expected to last four hours - until seven in the evening.

You can join the procession or watch the action at any point along the route. At the same time, the organizers advise that if you infiltrate the column, do it not “from the head”, but in the middle-tail, so as not to violate the integrity of the procession.

You can take water and a snack with you. Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather and wear something comfortable. Also, don’t forget a memorable photo of your “military” relative, reports the portal 1rre. Many, for lack of a photo, walk in a column with balloons and flowers, or with signs indicating the date of birth and death of a relative or information about his personal military history.

“We think that about 1 million people will take part, last year more than 800 thousand people came, but then it was very cold, it was raining and snowing. This year the weather promises to be good, so we assume that the figure may approach and even cross the 1 million mark,” say the organizers.

Immortal Regiment - blocking traffic in Moscow May 9, 2018

During the Immortal Regiment procession, Leningradsky Prospekt from the Dynamo metro station to the center, 1st Tverskaya-Yamskaya, Tverskaya and Mokhovaya streets, Teatralny proezd, Kremlevskaya and Moskvoretskaya embankments, as well as the Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge will be blocked.
Also, not all metro stations along the procession will be open. “Dynamo” and “Belorusskaya” will not be closed, “Mayakovskaya” will be closed as Tverskaya is filled with protesters, but “Chekhovskaya”, “Pushkinskaya” and “Tverskaya” will be closed at exactly 13:00. You can join the column by leaving any of the listed stations, but you will not be able to join the “Immortal Regiment” by leaving any alley on Tverskaya. Therefore, plan your route in advance.

Moscow authorities urge citizens to be tolerant and use public transport on the holiday so as not to create unnecessary excitement by overloading the roads with traffic jams.

The procession of the Immortal Regiment is already an integral part of the celebration of May 9 in every city in Russia. The largest procession will naturally take place in Moscow, and this year it is expected record number participants - up to a million. The route of the Immortal Regiment in Moscow in 2018: how the procession will take place, where and when the participants will gather, how to prepare for the procession.

When and where does the Immortal Regiment begin in Moscow on May 9, 2018

The main gathering place for march participants in Moscow is the site near the Dynamo metro station. The gathering of participants begins at 12:00, however, it should be taken into account that the column itself will move only 3 hours later, at 15:00. Thus, if you want to arrive at the gathering place in advance, you should stock up on patience, water and a hat against possible heat.

It makes sense for the most persistent participants to gather near the Dynamo metro station - those who can endure all 6 kilometers of the procession.

Those who cannot or do not want to walk that far have the opportunity to join the action along the procession. But we should not forget that this will only be possible in specially designated areas. In order to organize security, participants in the procession will be searched by the police, and you will be able to join the procession only in places where security measures have been organized. Other areas adjacent to the route will be blocked.

At 15:00 the column of the Immortal Regiment starts from the Dynamo metro station along Leningradsky Prospekt in the direction of Red Square. The route will pass through the following streets and squares:

  • Leningrad Avenue,
  • Tverskaya street,
  • Tverskaya-Yamskaya street,
  • Okhotny Ryad,
  • Manezhnaya Square,
  • Red Square.

Places where you can join the procession:

  • metro station "Belorusskaya": will operate without restrictions all day,
  • The Mayakovskaya metro station will close the moment the adjacent section of Tverskaya Street is filled with protesters,
  • Exit from Pushkinskaya, Chekhovskaya and Tverskaya stations: will close at 13:00.

There are no more options to join the Moscow column.

How the members of the Immortal Regiment will disperse behind Red Square

Having passed Red Square, the participants of the Immortal Regiment in 2018 will disperse in two columns, going around St. Basil's Cathedral.

Route of the first column:

  • to the left of St. Basil's Cathedral,
  • Vasilievsky descent,
  • Big Moskvoretsky Bridge.

Route of the second column:

  • to the right of St. Basil's Cathedral,
  • Vasilievsky descent,
  • Moskvoretskaya embankment.

In fact, the procession will end in the area of St. Basil's Cathedral, after which you, being in the first or second column, can go home or go for a walk further in the center of Moscow.

The total length of the route of the Immortal Regiment in Moscow in 2018

It will depend on where exactly you go from in the overall column:

  • from the Dynamo metro station: 5.9 km to St. Basil's Cathedral,
  • from Belorusskaya metro station: 4 km,
  • from the Mayakovskaya metro station: 2.5 km,
  • from metro stations "Pushkinskaya", "Chekhovskaya" and "Tverskaya": 1.8 km.

Considering that the column will go quite slowly (the organizers have allocated at least 2 hours for the entire upcoming route), even older people will be able to cope with the procession.

First of all, it is necessary to take into account the security measures that will be taken during the procession. First of all, up to a million citizens will take part in it; it is logical that such a crowd of people will need to be protected in a special regime. It is important that people protected by the FSO, right up to the president, can take part in the Moscow procession. This means that part of the column will be guarded especially carefully.

When going to the procession, consider such nuances as:

  • All participants will be searched with metal detectors,
  • water may only be taken in plastic containers (it will also be distributed along the way),
  • photo and video equipment is allowed,
  • participants on a scooter/bicycle will not be allowed into the column,
  • participants with a child in a stroller will be allowed in,
  • You can have a folding chair with you to wait for the movement to begin.

In addition to free water being distributed along the route, it is also planned to deploy field kitchens and toilet stalls.

When preparing a banner yourself with a photo and the name of your relative who participated in the war, take into account a number of important points.

You may not be able to attend the rally if police officers believe that your banner poses a danger to other people. The design must first of all be lightweight. Metal elements, a thick shaft, etc. are excluded. The structure itself should have small dimensions - optimally if it is an A4 photo.

If you decide to leave the column before the procession ends, you are free to do so. But if you decide to return, this can only be done in specially organized places near one of the metro stations mentioned above.

On Victory Day, May 9, 2018, the traditional “Immortal Regiment” procession will take place in Moscow.
