Prayers for the elimination of family troubles to the holy martyrs and confessors Guria, Samon and Aviv

Two friends, Gury and Samon, lived in the 3rd–4th centuries in the city of Edessa and professed the Christian faith. During the persecution of Christians that took place during the reign of the emperors Diocletian and Maximian, Gury and Samon were captured and brought to trial. After they refused to renounce the true faith and make sacrifices to the pagan gods, the saints were given over to terrible torture and beheaded.

Saint Aviv, deacon of the temple in Edessa, suffered for the faith later - under the next emperor Licinius. He voluntarily surrendered himself into the hands of the executioners and was sentenced to be burned. When the fire went out, the relatives took the saint’s undamaged body and buried it next to the graves of Guria and Aviv.

After the death of the holy martyrs, they came to the aid of those who turned to them with fervent prayer, and performed miracles.

History has preserved the legend of the matchmaking of a Gothic warrior sent to serve in Edessa with a local girl from a pious family, Euphemia. Having promised her mother to protect and care for his wife, the warrior, at the end of his service, took Euphemia to his hometown, where it turned out that he already had a family. So the girl turned into a slave, who was subjected to humiliation and bullying. In despair, Euphemia called out to the holy martyrs, begging them to spare her her bitter fate, and the saints were not slow in providing her with miraculous help. In an instant, the girl was transported to her hometown and returned to her mother. When, a few years later, the Gothic deceiver found himself in Edessa again, the whole city became aware of his crime and the ruler gave the order to execute the perjurer.

Warm intercessors and prayer books for us before God, in the tenderness of our hearts, looking at your most pure image, we humbly pray to you: hear us, sinful and unworthy servants of yours, who are in troubles, sorrows and misfortunes, and having seen our grave and countless sins, reveal Your great mercy to us, raise us up from the depths of sin, enlighten our minds, soften the evil and damned heart, stop the envy, enmity and strife that live in us. Overshadow us with peace, love and the fear of God, beg the merciful Lord to cover the multitude of our sins with His ineffable mercy. May she preserve her holy Church from unbelief, heresies and schisms. May he give our country peace, prosperity, and fertility of the land; spouse love and harmony; child obedience; patience for the offended; those who offend the fear of God; complacency to those who mourn; those who rejoice abstain. May He cover us all with His all-powerful right hand and deliver us from famine, destruction, cowardice, flood, fire, sword, invasion of foreigners, and internecine warfare, and vain deaths. May He protect us with the militia of His holy Angels, so that upon our departure from this life we may be delivered from the wiles of the evil one and his secret aerial ordeals and may present ourselves uncondemned to the Throne of the Lord of Glory, where the faces of the saints, the Angels with all the saints, glorify the most holy and magnificent name of the Father and the Son and The Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Second prayer

Oh, glory to the martyr Guria, Samona and Aviva! To you, as quick helpers and warm prayer books, we, weak and unworthy, come running, fervently pleading: do not despise us, who have fallen into many iniquities and are sinning all the days and hours; guide the lost on the right path, heal the suffering and mourning; keep us in a blameless and chaste life; and as in ancient times, so now remain the patrons of marriages, in love and like-mindedness this affirms and delivers from all evil and calamity. Protect, O mighty confessors, all Orthodox Christians from misfortunes, evil people and the wiles of demons; Protect me from unexpected death, begging the All-Good Lord, that He may add great and rich mercy to us, His humble servant. We are not worthy to call on the magnificent name of our Creator with unclean lips, unless you, holy martyrs, intercede for us; For this reason we resort to you and ask for your intercession before the Lord. Also deliver us from famine, flood, fire, sword, invasion of foreigners, internecine warfare, deadly plagues and every soul-destroying situation. To her, passion-bearers of Christ, through your prayers arrange for us all that is good and useful, so that having passed a pious life for a time and having achieved a shameless death, we will be worthy of your warm intercession with all the saints at the right hand of the Just God of the Judge, and may unceasingly glorify Him with the Father and the Holy Spirit forever. Amen.

All my childhood I watched my father tyrannize my mother. He didn’t drink, didn’t smoke, earned good money, and was a good colleague and friend to everyone around him. But at home he turned into a monster. No, he never beat us children and never laid a finger on our mother. But you can also beat with words... Everything was always wrong for him - the soup, if not over-salted, was under-salted, everything was out of place, his wife didn’t look right. We also got it, but less. Last year I started going to church and felt much better there than at home. I began to read books, learn prayers, and when I read the lives of the Holy Martyrs Guria, Samon and Aviv, I began to pray to them every day for my parents. For the summer I went to visit my grandmother in another city, but even there I went to church and did not stop praying. And she returned in the fall - she simply did not recognize her family. Father speaks calmly, and mother... she simply blossomed. And we never heard a single harsh word from my father again - how we replaced the man. These are the kind of miracles that happen through prayers...

Akathist to Saints Guria, Samon and Aviv - prayer for the family

Saints Gury, Samon and Aviv are patrons of the family and helpers in healing heart wounds and overcoming unhappy love. Learn about the lives and miracles of saints

Prayer to the patrons of family life

Appeal to Saints Gurias, Samon and Aviv in case of difficulties in family life- a pious tradition of Orthodox Christians. The saints became famous for the wondrous miracle that they performed after their death for a resident of the city of Edessa, the place of their earthly life.

Why Gury, Samon and Aviv are the patrons of marriage

Saints Samon and Gury were friends and preached Christ in ancient centuries, under the Roman emperors who persecuted Christians, Maximilian and Diocletian.
It is known that the emperors of Rome saw Christianity as a threat to their power. That is why they forced the disciples of Christ to either sacrifice to the pagan gods or accept a terrible death after torture. Gury and Samon, knowing this, refused to submit to the persecutors, deciding to testify their loyalty to God by death.
After refusing to sacrifice to idols, they were thrown into prison and subjected to abuse. They endured all this meekly and with prayer to Christ. Only the Lord gave strength to the martyrs to endure suffering. One night, so that people would not try to free the sufferers, the saints were taken outside the city walls, where they were executed. Their remains were eventually found and secretly buried by Christians.

A few years later, new cruel persecution of the Lord’s disciples began. The Edessa deacon Aviv was one of the fearless preachers of Christ: on the streets of the city and at secret meetings of Christians, he urged not to abandon the teachings of the Lord, and strengthened the faith in others. Rumors about him personally reached the emperor. Of course, he ordered to find Aviv and force him to renounce Christ. As soon as Saint Aviv learned that they were looking for him, he himself came to the executioners so as not to endanger other Christians - so that secret temples would not be found and women and children would not be harmed.
But even for such courage, the Roman soldiers did not spare the saint. He was sentenced to be burned. With prayer and faith in God's providence, he himself went into the burning fire. Here he accepted death, but as soon as the executioners dispersed and the fire burned out, the relatives, who were allowed to say goodbye to the saint before the execution and who were awaiting its end, saw not the remains, but the relics of the saint, undamaged by the fire! Then they decided to place his body next to Samon and Gury, who were already revered as local saints.

Miracle of Guria, Samona and Aviva

They also began to pray for family happiness to Saints Guria, Samo and Aviva from ancient times. Through prayers to them a miracle happened, the story of which needs to be told separately.
Gothic troops were stationed in Edessa. One of the soldiers saw the beautiful Christian Euphemia among the residents of the city and asked her to become his wife and go with him to the Gothic country. The parents were afraid to send the young girl far away, because they knew the Goth only from his own words. However, Euphemia fell in love with a Goth, and it seemed enough to her parents that the groom swore at the relics of Saints Guria, Samon and Aviv that he would not offend his future wife.
They played a wedding, the caravan went to the husband’s homeland. And upon arrival, Euphemia found out that her husband was already married to a rich woman and had children. He turned new wife into a slave, but she could not explain who she was - she did not know the Gothic language.
When Euphemia gave birth to a boy - and she still hoped to regain the love of her “husband” and secretly allowed him to live with her - the Goth’s wife, obviously guessing about the true state of affairs, poisoned the baby! How desperate Euphemia was! When the Goth's wife died almost immediately, local residents accused Euphemia of revenge and imprisoned her in a crypt with the corpse of the Goth woman who was allegedly poisoned by her to certain death.
Here Euphemia, in suffering, prayed to the saints Guria, Samos and Aviv - witnesses of the oath of the unfaithful Goth. She repented that out of ignorance she lived with someone else’s husband and, out of passionate love for him, allowed him to come to her, from which the baby was conceived. After such a prayer, a great miracle happened. The saints appeared to Euphemia and carried her across many kilometers unharmed back to Edessa!
The woman was able to tell the truth to her family and escape. But the deceiver also suffered punishment. He was again sent to serve in Edessa. There, believing that no one would know that he had deceived and allowed his wife to be practically killed, he hid everything that had happened. But Euphemia herself denounced him. The deceiver was executed by angry residents according to civil laws.
So the saints saved the victim of violence and punished the tyrant. Since then, Orthodox women have resorted to their help with difficulties in family life. Happy families also pray to them to save their marriage. The prayer can be read to spouses together or separately, at any time of the day. You can add it to your daily morning or evening prayers, which blesses to read Orthodox Church according to the prayer book.
You can read any prayer, even one as long as an akathist, not only from a prayer book, but also from the screen of a gadget or computer.

Through the prayers of Saints Guria, Samon, Aviv and all the saints, may the Lord God protect you and your family!

Holy martyrs and their lives

In the 3rd century, the so-called period of “persecution of Christians” began in the history of Christianity. In the city of Edessa, the pagans captured two Christian friends - Samon and Guria, who were preachers God's word. They completely refused to make a sacrifice to the pagan god, for which they were subjected to severe and terrible torture.

The martyrs endured all pain with prayer and fortitude. One night they were taken to the square and beheaded. Christian believers took care of their bodies and buried them.

At the beginning of the 4th century, the preacher Aviv came to the emperor, who was already being sought as a distributor of false faith. So that others would not suffer, the martyr himself surrendered. The saint confessed his faith and was sentenced to be burned. Aviv himself went into the fire. And in the morning they found the unharmed body of the dead martyr in the ashes. For this he was buried with Samon and Gury.

Everyone has the power to create their life in harmony and goodness, relying on the commandments of the Almighty. Family is one of the most important aspects arrangement of a happy society, but here there is little desire and effort of one. Peace, tranquility and well-being in the family are the result of the painstaking work of both. And if one of the spouses is overcome by the vices of pride and malice, then it would be right to ask for the help of the holy martyrs, so that they would bring the offender to their senses and shelter the family from worries and sorrows. Prayer to the holy martyrs Guria, Samon and confessor Aviv brings healing to hearts loving spouses and tames the obstinate.

The story of the descent into the host of saints

Tradition places these martyrs in the first centuries after the miraculous Christ's Resurrection. The holy righteous Gury, Samon and Aviv lived at a time when the pagan and bloody emperor Diocletian declared a great persecution of Christian confessors. High-ranking adherents of pagan atheism could not allow Christ's faith walked through their lands. They saw danger in the Risen God and for many years punished the early Christians with severe executions, trying to break their will and turn them away from the true Lord.

  • The Great Persecution Killed Thousands human lives, but did not stop the victorious march Christian faith. Expanded from 303 to 313, it drowned about 4 thousand early Christians in the blood of life. Proud, but not broken, they, with the Name of the Most High, chose to go to execution rather than submit to pagan sin. Only Emperor Constantine the Great had the wisdom to stop the rivers of Christian blood, realizing the weakness and insignificance of paganism in front of the true faith.
  • By the will of the Lord, everyone who died, but did not renounce him, was granted to the Kingdom of Heaven. Many who became famous for their feats of strength of faith were canonized as holy martyrs, confessors and saints for the wonders that they accomplished with the power of their enlightened spirit. Every martyr and confessor, by the will of the Almighty, is given Immortal life in Paradise Lands.

The future holy martyrs Gury and Samon were ordinary laymen who were imbued with God's Spirit of the faith of Christ and accepted it into their hearts. Warned of the beginning of great persecution against the followers of Christ, they tried to leave Edessa, the city in which they lived. However, they were unable to hide far - they were captured and subjected to terrible trials.

As a condition for release, the tormentors demanded a sacrifice to pagan pseudo-gods, but such a sin was unacceptable. Then the enraged persecutors subjected them to inhuman torture - they were hung on hind legs, bundles of stones were attached to their feet, they were beaten and tortured. Nothing forced Christians strong in faith to reject God, only prayers to Heaven ascended from the lips of Guria and Samon.

Locked in a cramped prison, but not broken in their will, the saints did not renounce the chosen path of the righteous, for which they drank the cup of martyrdom to the end - they were executed. On a dark night they were beheaded in the main city square, and already in the afternoon their bodies were respectfully buried by their brothers in Christ. This event occurred between 300 and 306 years.

The path to God: from confessor to saints

A few years later, Emperor Licinius repeated the horror of bloodshed of those who chose the faith of Christ. The Edessa deacon Aviv himself came to the torturers in order to take the executioners away from his flock. The confessor did not renounce the One God, but remained faithful to him with all his soul. The very offer given to Aviva - to receive forgiveness at the cost of sacrifice to the demonic gods - was rejected with anger and contempt. For which, of course, he was sentenced to a terrible execution - burning alive.

Aviv himself, without violence, entered the flames and gave his soul to the Almighty for eternal service. After the raging flames of the fire subsided, Aviv's body turned out to be whole and undamaged. Mother Aviva was able to wash him with dignity and give him burial. By coincidence, Aviva is destined to be buried in the same cave where Samon and Gury had previously rested.

Marvelous deeds of the holy martyrs

The most notable event from which the glory of the saints began is the miracle of the deliverance of the pious Euphemia from her tormentor husband. Of course, besides this story, many other miracles were created by the will of the holy martyrs, but this is one of the noticeable and indicative of the help that they show to the laity.

Among the local Edessa Christians, Gury, Samon and Aviv became famous as those whose life and death became the measure of piety and fidelity to the oath of the Lord. Therefore, to pronounce oaths before taking Euphemia as his wife, her future husband was brought to the grave of the martyrs, so that their holy spirit would become the protection and patron of the pious.

The whole point is that a visiting Goth warrior, whose service took place in Edessa, noticed Euphemia earlier and came to ask her mother for betrothal. But bad rumors followed him, as if he was married, and wanted to seduce Euphemia as his concubine. Doubt crept into the heart of the loving mother, but there was no reason for refusal. Therefore, having surrendered to the will of the Almighty and having secured the patronage of the holy martyrs, Euphemia found herself married to a Goth.

Imagine her surprise when, arriving at her husband’s house, Euphemia saw confirmation of the rumors - his wife and children were waiting for the warrior at home. The subsequent tragic events became a huge test for the pious Christian virgin. The Gothic wife killed Euphemia's newborn son with poison. She immediately understood this when she saw bloody foam on the dead child’s lips. Carefully collecting its remains with a cloth, Euphemia dipped them into the goblet - she immediately gave up the ghost, poisoned by the poison of her meanness.

Having come up with nothing better, the Goth deceiver decided to bury his dead Goth wife and the living Euphemia in the same grave, thereby hiding the traces of his deception away. Prayers for help came from the lips of the pious woman; she prayed to Guria, Samon and Aviva - those whom she took as patrons and witnesses to the deceiver’s oath.

The Lord did not allow the unjust death of the unfortunate Euphemia, captured by deception, and transferred her to her native home. And after some time, the Goth was again destined to find himself in Edessa. There he, as if nothing had happened, stepped onto the threshold of the house of the deceived parents. An unfulfilled relative, when asked by his parents about his daughter, lied and told tales about happy life his wife and numerous offspring. As a result, all his lies were revealed, and the perjurer faced an unenviable fate - a death sentence.

Worship and memory of the holy martyrs

The Holy Orthodox Church has established a canon of worship of the holy martyrs and confessors Gurias, Samon and Aviva, as patrons of family and marriage. The veneration and service to them is carried out in the traditions of modern liturgical practice, consisting of a troparion, a kontakion in the likeness of the “Highest Seekings,” a canon and an irmos. An akathist is dedicated to the memory of the saints, as a tradition of solemn prayer to call upon their Heavenly souls to help those suffering.

  • Akathist - a special prayer to the saints, in which their life path that brought him to the Kingdom of Heaven. It usually consists of several components that can act as independent reading.

The canonical image of the holy martyrs involves the image of three men dressed in tunics and himation. They were called martyrs due to their acceptance martyrdom. They did not renounce, kept faith in their hearts, went through torment and did not sell their souls to pagan demons - this feat is worthy of worship and veneration, as an example of the strength of oaths and the Lord. Confessors are traditionally called those who confessed and favored the dissemination of the Holy Scriptures.

  • Gury is depicted as a gray-haired old man in a tunic.
  • Samon is dressed in the same himation and chiton, but he himself looks younger than Gury.
  • Aviv was younger in age, so he is depicted as a youthful man, but in a surplice and with a censer, for he served as a deacon.

From time immemorial, the icon of the holy martyrs adorns the home of every married couple in order to protect them from adversity and prevent the spouses from falling into sin. Even if a couple is happy together, they should remember the saints with gratitude and offer prayers to them for intercession with the Lord and for guiding the couple toward piety and wisdom.

The first prayer is for protection.

Akathist - helper in family troubles

The test of the Holy Lamb is well known, when an oathbreaker or a grumpy spouse is given a taste of consecrated prosphora in order to pacify his riot or lead him to clean water liar. The history of this ordeal dates back to 1410, when thieves tried to steal temple utensils from the St. Sophia Cathedral. But by the will of the patron saints, who gave a wondrous sign, the thieves were exposed and found. Subsequently, they repented and took monastic vows in order to atone for their guilt.

By archbishop's decree, such a test is accepted as canonical, and has the blessing of the Holy Church. If there is a suspicion that the spouse is unfaithful or has begun to bring evil into his home, is hard-hearted towards his wife and children, is biased towards his household and has become stingy with kindness, then the following service is held.

  • Having confessed and received communion, one should ask the holy father for a blessing to hold a proskomedia for the three martyrs Guria, Samon and Aviva as a test for the spouse whose spirit was possessed by the devil.
  • Having given the blessing, the priests perform a ritual, after which they need to take a piece of the sacred Lamb and bring it to the house where the subject lives.
  • Lamb - a specially cut part from a cross-shaped prosphora during the ritual of proskomedia for three confessors. This piece of sacred bread is mixed into the food of the person targeted by the ritual.
  • The Akathist to the martyrs Guria, Samon and the confessor Aviv is read in that house where evil and quarrels often began to shake the walls, and hatred and resentment overcame former love and respect.

When starting a ritual, you need to think about what you are asking from the saints - bringing treachery to the court of God and man or pacifying a violent spouse. As planned, the result is that the proud and rowdy man will be calmed down and will become an exemplary husband to his wife. But the liar will be put to shame and retreat from his own, leaving alone those whom he offended.

Prayer for the happiness of spouses

They pray to the holy martyrs for the restoration of peace and tranquility between spouses who have squandered their love for each other. It happens that relationships in marriage deteriorate and quarrels shake the house - this is not a reason for divorce, but the need to turn to the Lord and Heavenly patrons for help.

  • Prayer to the martyrs Guria, Samon and confessor Aviv is offered at the usual prayer time.
  • It is advisable to keep the holy image of three confessors in the house, so that they have power over your walls and can provide assistance with their power.
  • The name of the spouse whose need has arisen to appease must be submitted to three churches for health in order to drive out the demon of malice from his heart.
  • When chastising the hard-heartedness of a spouse with prayer, they also read Psalm 90. It is able to get rid of the influence of possible witchcraft or love spells and pacify the relationship between husband and wife.

In general, any prayer has the meaning of calling on the Holy Spirit to help people’s troubles. Therefore, do not ignore the holy martyrs and saints in your appeals in search of a solution to the surging problem. Our merciful Heavenly Patrons will always be the Son of God and His Holy Mother. The Guardian Angel can provide calm to worries; he is able to solve many important matters, removing obstacles and problems on the Orthodox path. Any trouble will be overcome by your earnest prayer and strong faith in the Creator.

Akathist to Saints Guria, Samon and Aviv

Family is Holy place in the life of every Orthodox Christian.

How to save a family from impending discord? Akathist will help Guria, Samon and Aviv regain prosperity.

What is the power of turning to the saints?

It is in the family that each person fulfills the main commandments about love for one’s neighbor, given by God to people. There should be no selfishness in the family, because it is for this reason that disagreements arise between spouses, leading to divorce.

But in practice, people do not value family: many husbands abuse their rights, beat their wives, and ignore them. In response to such “gestures,” women argue with their husbands, stop protecting and improving their homes, and children are born and grow up in disharmony.

The holy martyrs are the patrons of marriage, help women humiliated by their husbands, and admonish men.

In addition to offering praise, it is necessary to attend divine services, pray fervently, confess, partake of the Holy Mysteries of Christ, and soon peace and harmony will come to the family.

Rules for reading the akathist

The Orthodox Church has put the most beautiful prayer chants into human lips. Akathist is one of her great creations.

The Akathist was first written in 626 and was dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Patriarch Sergius of Constantinople was ordered by the Most Blessed Virgin herself to compose a song of thanksgiving in honor of the liberation of Byzantium from the Avar siege. Later, akathists were written to the Almighty and His saints.

Important! Before starting to read the hymn of praise, it is advisable to read the life of the saint to whom the hymn will be offered.

The text of the akathist consists of 25 songs, which, in turn, consist of kontakia and ikos. Kontakion marks the praise of the saint, and ikos describes the essence of the event.

First, the prayers “Heavenly King”, “Holy God”, “Holy Trinity have mercy on us”, “Our Father” are read, then 1 kontakion, 1 ikos and then in order. After the words “Hallelujah,” you need to ask out loud for the painful problem.

In conclusion, prayers to the saint are read on kneeling.

Akathist to the heavenly patrons of marriage

The song of praise addressed to the three saints protects the family union from disintegration. It can be read by either one of the family members or a relative, knowledgeable happening family problem, which is very effective, because all people on earth are brothers and sisters in Christ.

History of martyrs

For their ardent faith in Christ, the martyrs were sentenced to execution, but before it they were subjected to the most severe torture. But the great saints endured every mockery courageously; they were allowed to stand up to the enemy by the enormous strength of their faith.

One day, under the cover of darkness, fanatics secretly took out their bloody bodies and beheaded them. Secretly from the Romans, Christians buried the martyrs.

The life path of Saint Aviv is especially significant. He was engaged in enlightening the Christian faith even before pagans appeared in the city.

Once he dared to reason with Emperor Licinius, for which he was destined to die. He was burned, but in the morning his body was found in the ashes intact and undamaged. After this, Aviva was beheaded along with Gury and Samon.

Prayers to the holy martyrs still resound in people’s hearts and help in overcoming life’s adversities. Their life is a feat and an example for believers to follow.

Every Christian has a responsibility to make every effort to save their marriage. The woman is the first to feel a “crack” in the family hearth, and it is she who must do everything in her power to preserve the family. The most important thing is a fiery prayer to Christ, His Most Pure Mother and the holy great martyrs Guria, Samon and Aviv.

Lives of the Holy Martyrs Guria, Samon and Aviv

During the persecution of Christians under the emperors Diocletian (284 - 305) and Maximian (305 - 311), two friends were captured in the city of Edessa: Christians Gury and Samon, preachers of the Word of God. The saints responded with a decisive refusal to the offer to make a sacrifice to the gods, confessing their faith in Christ. For this they were subjected to terrible torture: they were beaten, hung up by their hands, with heavy weights tied to their feet, and thrown into a cramped dungeon. The martyrs endured everything with firmness and prayer to the Lord, which was recorded by one of the witnesses of their torment: “Lord my God, without His will, one bird will fall into the net. You, who spread David’s heart in sorrow, who showed the prophet Daniel stronger than lions, and who gave Abraham the victory over the tormentor and the flame to be. Even now, Lord, knowing the weakness of our nature, you see the battle that has arisen against us. For the enemy strives to tear away from You the work of Your right hand and to deprive (us) of the Glory that is Yours. But You, having looked upon us with Your merciful eye, keep in us the unquenchable lamp of Your Commandments. With Thy light, straighten our feet, and make us worthy to enjoy Thy bliss, for Thou art blessed forever and ever.” At night the martyrs were taken outside the city and beheaded (+ 299 – 306). Christians buried their holy bodies.

Many years later, the last pagan emperor Licinius (311 - 324) began a persecution of Christians. A deacon of the Edessa Church named Aviv, whom the emperor ordered to be captured for his zealous spread of the true faith, himself came to the executioners, not wanting other Christians to suffer while searching for him. The saint confessed his faith in Christ and was sentenced to be burned. The martyr himself entered the fire and with prayer gave up his spirit to the Lord (+ 322). When the fire went out, the saint’s mother and relatives found his body intact. The martyr was buried next to Saints Gury and Samon.

After the death of the saints, numerous miracles were performed on those who, with faith and love, called upon them to help them. So, one day a Goth warrior, sent to serve in Edessa, took the pious girl Euphemia as his wife. Before this, he swore to her mother Sophia at the tomb of the martyrs Guria, Samon and Aviv that he would not do any harm to his wife, would never offend her, but would love and honor her. At the end of his service in Edessa, he took Euphemia with him and returned to his homeland. Subsequently, it turned out that he had deceived her: he had a wife in his homeland, and Euphemia became her slave. Euphemia had to endure a lot of bullying and humiliation. When her child was born, a jealous Gothic woman poisoned him. Euphemia turned with prayer to the holy martyrs Gury, Samon and Aviv - witnesses of the deceiver’s oath, and the Lord delivered Euphemia from suffering and miraculously transported her to Edessa, where she met her mother. After some time, the Gothic oathbreaker was again sent to serve in Edessa. The whole city learned about his crime, and, by order of the ruler, the Goth was executed.

Glorifying the holy martyrs in the Akathist, the Holy Church addresses them: “Rejoice, Guria, Samona and Aviv, heavenly patron of honest marriage.”
