Southwest monsoon: weather in Vietnam in summer and autumn

From May to October, Vietnam experiences hot and humid weather. The rains begin in May and the amount of precipitation increases steadily until July. As a result, July and August are the rainiest months. Precipitation levels have been decreasing since September. The rainy season begins in the south of the country and after about a week reaches the northern part of Vietnam.

Also from May to October the temperature reaches its maximum. The hottest time is in April, when the dry season has not yet begun, and the temperature has already risen above 30°C. In the north of the country, the hottest months are in June and July, which, combined with high humidity, causes a lot of inconvenience. Makeup literally drips off women's faces, and no deodorant can protect your armpits from getting wet. You have to shower 2-3 times a day.

None of this means you need to avoid Vietnam from May to October. Unstable weather is more than compensated for by low prices and fewer tourists. At this time of year, it is best to travel in the northern part of the country and avoid hilly areas. In summer and autumn there is a lot of sun in Vietnam, the rains are heavy and end quickly, but there is a chance that they will last for several days. This is also typhoon season.

Weather in northern Vietnam

The weather in northern Vietnam tends to be colder than other countries South-East Asia at the same longitude. Weather in central Vietnam

Central Vietnam is conventionally divided into 2 subregions - the coastal lowlands and the central highlands. During the winter season (from November to March), the coast is colder and there is more rainfall, and it is also prone to hurricanes and typhoons.

If you like this weather, then welcome to Dalat or Pleiku - two major cities in this area. Closer to the south, the coastal cities of Qui Nhon, Nha Trang and Phan Thiet, on the contrary, have hot weather of 21°C - 32°C all year round.

Weather in southern Vietnam

Southern Vietnam is close to the equator and has a typical humid tropical climate, which is excellent for growing rice. The average annual temperature ranges between 27-32°C. Unlike the north, there are only two main seasons: dry and rainy. During the rainy season (May to November), it rains almost every day, resulting in occasional flooding of the streets in Saigon. During the dry season from late February to April it is very hot here and only with the arrival of rains it becomes a little cooler. Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) is especially popular from December to March. The weather here is at its most pleasant at this time of year.

In general, the climate in Vietnam is so dependent on the season and region that the average annual temperature for the entire country is not at all indicative. Due to the fact that the weather in Vietnam varies depending on the region, you can come here at any time of the year and move around the country. I recommend spending February to March in Saigon, and then gradually moving north. But the choice is always yours.
