Humanity has fallen. The earth no longer belongs to people. For a hundred years now, the survivors have been forced to eke out their existence behind three rows of giant stone walls, protecting them from the threat. The enemy of people is simply monstrous: one day huge titans appeared on earth and began to devour everyone who came to hand. And progress gave way to decline - technology remained at the level of the nineteenth century, the most strong weapon humanity are guns that will be of little help in a battle with such an enemy. Would you like to live in such a world? I wouldn't want to. And to the anime heroes Shingeki No Kyojin("Attack on Titan", "Attack on Titan") you don’t have to choose: you either fight or become a snack for the titans...
Brief information
Shingeki No Kyojin was released in 2013 by the studio Production I. G, and consists of 25 episodes and several subplots. "Attack on Titan" is not an ordinary anime. The main goal its release boosted sales of the manga, which was not selling very well. The result exceeded all expectations. Nobody expected the anime to be such a huge success. In terms of popularity, no one could compete with Attack on Titan in 2013. Thanks to anime, the manga company was finally able to increase its profits for the first time in years.
Apparently, not everyone liked this success. On one popular foreign resource, “Attack on Titan” was voted the most overrated anime in history by popular vote. And, to be honest, this is not entirely clear to me. Yes, Shingeki No Kyojin has a number of flaws, but there are also plenty of good things about this anime. Criticizing Attack on Titan is almost as fashionable as criticizing . “But this is mainstream, anime for rednecks!!!” - heard from different parts of the planet. Strange people... Attack on Titan is one of the few anime that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to someone new to the anime industry and looking for something to watch.
Characters
Okay, enough of the lyrics, it's time to get down to the facts. Let's start by looking at the characters. Their number is huge. First of all, this is due to the fact that people in that world die constantly, and new ones come to replace them. However, it is worth noting that all the minor characters are well written. There is no feeling that these are soulless dummies, uttering memorized stereotyped phrases, and are needed only as food for the titans. In anime, in which psychology plays an important role, the diversity of heroes and their personalities is very important. In my opinion, Attack on Titan does this very well.
The secondary characters are good. What about the main ones? There are only three of them, let's look at them in more detail:
He finds himself in the middle of the action when a huge colossus makes a hole in the outer wall of the Maria. The Titan devours Eren's mother right before his eyes. Enraged by his powerlessness, Eren vowed to destroy all the titans in this world. To do this, he entered the academy, which teaches how to fight titans one-on-one using a system of winches and swords. Even without having a developed mind, due to his perseverance and courage (sometimes bordering on recklessness) he manages to get into the ranks of the best.
What can I say: original and interesting ideas I didn't notice anything about the main character. Type used an idealist trying with all his might to become stronger. Perhaps the only unusual thing I would like to note is Eren’s gradual realization that in order to defeat monsters, he must become a monster himself. Not only physically, but also mentally. This is very well reflected in the last episodes of the season. That is, over time, Eren turns from a person with high moral standards to something beast-like, and I liked it. But if we ignore this fact, then we can easily see that Eren is an ordinary "Ahhhh kill all the villains" a character who tends to utter all sorts of pretentious phrases during battles, which begin to get boring towards the end. Oh yes, he also sometimes becomes unbearably stupid.
Eren's childhood friend. Together they dreamed of getting beyond the walls to travel across fields, seas and deserts. He has a developed mind, but is physically inferior to his peers. Because of this, he often found himself the object of bullying, from which Eren and Mikasa protected him in every possible way. Together with Eren, he decides to enter the academy to fight the titans, and does this more for company than out of a desire for revenge.
Personally, I found Armin a little more non-standard than Eren. A sort of self-underestimating smart guy who constantly needs to be supported and reminded of his genius. I think each of you knew an excellent student at school who was most worried about the exam results, but always got the highest score. Armin is one of those. But what I liked most was how well it was shown Contrast Armin with Eren: sanity versus ardor, fear versus battle madness, intelligence versus strength. If Eren begins to seem like a killing machine, then Armin remains much more human all the time.
Eren's half-sister. After bandits kill her family and Eren saves her from death, Eren's parents decide to take Mikasa into their care. For this, she is filled with love and gratitude for Eren, and strives to protect him everywhere. Together with him she enters the academy, where she very quickly becomes the best due to her incredibly fast technique in using a flight device.
Mikasa fits very well into the atmosphere of that cruel world. Of course, sometimes her behavior towards Eren seems somewhat fanatical, but this can be attributed to the fear of losing the latter loved one. She talks the least, but does the most. I always respected such people. Overall, of the three, Mikasa is the least annoying.
As you can see, you won’t find any super-revelations among the main characters. However, I really liked that as the story progressed there is no fixation on one of them. The focus gradually shifts from one character to another. Damn it, at a certain point I actually started to think that the main character in the anime was not Eren, but Armin. There is a moment in the plot that came as a complete surprise to me and forced me to draw erroneous conclusions. I’m sure that I wouldn’t be able to watch Eren’s moral torment for 25 episodes, so shifting the focus from one main character to another was a completely justified move, which is complemented by well-written minor characters. You won't be bored!
Plot
The plot can be easily divided into two parts − successful and inarticulate. While watching it, I got the feeling that the writers were so overwhelmed by success that they got scared and decided to sharply slow down the development of the plot. If until about the middle it is simply replete with bright and unexpected events, then from watching the remaining episodes I was left with the impression that I was watching Naruto. I watched the first part of the series with open mouth, devouring episode after episode. I watched the second part with increasing bewilderment, because I did not understand how such a dynamic anime could be so slowed down. Events that previously fit into one episode began to be spread out into three or four. The only worthy justification that comes to mind: the studio smelled money and decided to make some money. What's the easiest way to do this? That's right, increasing the number of episodes and decreasing the number of events. Quality suffers, but you can milk a successful title longer. It's a shame that this is happening more and more often.
Panache
Anime drawing excellent. From any screenshot you can conclude that this frame is from Attack on Titan. When an anime has its own unique drawing style, thanks to which you won’t confuse it with anything else, this speaks of the enormous work done by the artists. There are many characters, but their appearance is very different, and each has its own feature. Take the same Mikasa with her scarf or Ani Lionhart with her hooked nose. All characters are clearly drawn, backgrounds are filled with small details. I would especially like to note the animation during battles - it’s simply incomparable. You get the feeling that you are literally flying next to the hero.
Music
Music is in no way inferior to drawing. The OST lasts approximately two and a half hours, which is not bad for a 25-episode anime. The opening still gives me goosebumps. The soundtrack to "Attack on Titan" is one of my favorites, I listen to it periodically at work.
Atmospheric
In the anime it's just chic atmosphere. Everything, literally everything, is aimed at maintaining this atmosphere: from specific drawing and animation, to unexpected plot developments. It’s not often that you come across a situation where art, music and action complement each other so harmoniously. I couldn’t help but feel tense; it seemed like something unexpected was about to happen. Blood is shed here and there, people die in the hundreds, titans fall with their necks cut. When watching, you literally immerse yourself in the atmosphere of that world; it seems that you, together with the heroes, are flying between buildings and cutting down titans, and that you are risking your life with them every minute. Towards the end, the sensations dull, but during the moments of urban battles the adrenaline rushes. Very rarely have I gotten such a feeling from watching anime, the effect is comparable to watching a movie in a cinema in 3D on a huge screen.
Psychology
I also liked it psychological component anime. In the brutal world of Attack on Titan, you will see every possible deadly sin. People are different: some strive to fight, not sparing their own skin, while others huddle in a corner out of fear, begging for mercy. There are those who voluntarily take on the most difficult and dangerous tasks, and there are freeloaders who are ready to hide behind the very last row of walls. It is especially sad when cowards find themselves in the ranks of management. Oh, how I wanted Eren to blow off the head of the head of the defense of the second wall, who began shooting at the survivors with a cannon, while hiding behind the walls at the first opportunity. And since an anime is capable of causing hatred towards its characters, it means it copes with its task. Making a good villain is much more difficult than making a good hero. Not many people realize this.
Flaws
Obviously, all of the above is more than enough to call “Attack on Titan” a worthy candidate for viewing. But there are a number of significant shortcomings in this anime, due to which it is subject to severe criticism. Firstly, as I already noted, there is a sharp plot slowdown in the second part of the anime. The way the heroes on horseback spend an entire episode running away from the titan, while exchanging arrogant phrases, cannot but infuriate. Here's the truth, just like in Naruto: one character says a phrase, then the camera pans over the rest of the conversation participants for a minute. Then some minor action occurs, and again the camera pans over each character, showing the changed expression on their faces.
The second disadvantage I’ll call it pretentiousness. This is again the problem with the second half of the anime. Since there are fewer events, the free time needs to be filled with something. The writers solved this problem in the most in a simple way: added a bunch of unnecessary chatter on the topic of high matters. All these show-offs and mental anguish caused me nothing but irritation.
And finally, sometimes in anime humor appears, which is completely out of place. Here people are being torn to pieces, and you are making jokes. I first noticed this in the episodes about the camp, where the heroes learn the skills of fighting titans. Yes, it is clear that in this way the anime creators are trying to make the characters closer to the viewer. But jokes about, excuse me, farts look absolutely ridiculous. Thank God this will be kept to a minimum in the future.
Ratings
Characters - 7.5. There are many of them and they are different. The emphasis between the main characters is very skillfully placed, each receives the necessary attention, but does not have time to get bored. The secondary characters turned out to be undeveloped.
Plot - 7.0. If the first part of the season can be safely called ideal, then the second merges into something mediocre and very viscous. It's a shame that this happened, but what can you do? The thirst for money will spoil even the most beautiful creation.
Drawing - 10.0. Very high quality and original. Thanks to her, “Attack on Titan” cannot be confused with anything else.
Music - 10.0. A gorgeous soundtrack that perfectly complements what is happening on the screen.
Atmosphericity - 10.0. When watching, it seems that you are experiencing all the events together with the characters, that you are standing next to them, and not watching them from behind the screen. Very rare and valuable quality, which is almost never found in modern anime.
Psychology - 7.0. Sometimes the characters behave completely inappropriately, but in general human psychology is shown well.
Conclusion
So, the anime is definitely worth watching. At least the first part of it. Original idea and high-quality implementation take their toll: you don’t notice how you turn on and watch episode after episode. And if so, then what disadvantages can we talk about? For every shortcoming, Attack on Titan has a ton of positives. In general, if you haven’t watched this anime yet, take note of it. Especially considering that the second season is expected to be released in 2016.

It is believed that, thanks in part to Attack on Titan, Kodansha was able to increase sales in 2013 for the first time in 18 years and net profit for the first time in 19 years; in total, over 60 million manga issues have been published.
World
According to the plot of the manga, 100 years before the start of its events, humanity was almost completely destroyed by an unknown humanoid race of huge creatures called “titans”. People were forced to take refuge behind three high walls, which were named Sina (Japanese: シーナ Si:na, internal wall), Rose (Japanese: ローゼ Ro:ze, middle wall) and Maria (Japanese: マリア Maria, external wall). People lived like this for many years, thinking that they were completely safe. Behind each wall, on the outer side, “districts” were built - towns that served as the outer line of defense and were also surrounded by walls.
“Titans” are carnivorous giants that resemble people, but are distinguished by their enormous height - from three to fifteen meters, and in the manga creatures of even more monstrous sizes appear. Titans wear no clothing and have various features, be it the lack of skin, a huge torso or sawtooth teeth. They devour people, although they do not need food; move in a manner that is both comical and frightening. Manga author Hajime Isayama, answering the question of why he chose giants for the role of monsters opposing people, answered: “Giants are disgusting, that’s why.” The image of the destructive titans could have been influenced not so much by the theme of huge kaiju monsters, like Godzilla or Ghidorah, beloved by Japanese cinema, but by the paintings of the Spanish artist Francisco Goya.
In the manga, several military units appear, designed to protect human settlements from the titans. Soldiers are trained to fight and kill titans using a "dimensional maneuvering device" (Japanese: 立体機動装置 rittai kido: so:chi, verb. "device for mobile maneuvering in three-dimensional space"), abbreviated as UPM. It allows you to move in three-dimensional space, clinging to objects and ledges, and makes it possible to reach the only weak point of the titans - the base of the neck. Garrison soldiers guard the walls, but the only people who go beyond them are members of the reconnaissance squad. There are also Royal Guards who act as police and protect the King.
Plot
At the center of the events of "Attack on Titan" are three heroes: the son of a doctor, Eren Yeager, his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman and their childhood friend Armin Arlert. At the beginning of the manga, the Titans, led by the never-before-seen sentients "Colossal Titan" and "Armored Titan", invade their home district of Shinganshina by breaking through a gate in the outer wall. Eren and Mikasa's mother dies, and they themselves, along with Armin, are forced to seek shelter behind the inner walls. At the same time, Eren's father, Grisha Yeager, before leaving, leaves his son a mysterious key to the basement in the city captured by the titans. Eren swears revenge on the Titans, and all three join the army.
The action resumes five years later, when the grown-up heroes graduate from military school. The guys, along with their classroom, are in the Trost district - a fortified southern settlement near the second wall. Trost, like Shingansina, is attacked by the titans; An army armed with UPM tries to resist them, but is defeated, and some of the soldiers, including Eren, are eaten by the titans. After some time, a new intelligent titan comes to the aid of people, hostile towards his relatives - later the heroes recognize him as Eren, who has discovered the ability to temporarily turn into a titan. Command uses an unexpected titan ally to recapture Trost and seal the hole in the gate. Eren is judged to be a potential danger to humanity, but he is taken under the wing of a reconnaissance unit led by Erwin Smith and Captain Levi, and Eren's friends also join this unit.
A new reconnaissance squad is sent beyond the walls, on an expedition to the destroyed Shinganshina, but on the way is attacked by another, previously unseen, intelligent “female titan” - this creature not only surpasses other titans in speed and strength, but is able to control them with the help of scream. The heroes discover that the sentient titan is a werewolf, like Eren, and make an unsuccessful attempt to capture the enemy; the female demonstrates military training and - in human form - the ability to use the ULM. Although the expedition is defeated, upon returning beyond the walls the heroes are able to figure out the real identity of the female titan - this is Annie Leonhart, a cadet from the same classroom, as they themselves. The reconnaissance squad sets up a trap for Annie in Stohess County near the inner wall - in the ensuing battle of the titans, Eren defeats Annie. The heroes discover that there are also sleeping titans inside the walls protecting the city.
Soon the reconnaissance squad is forced to move out to repel a new threat - the appearance of titans between the inner walls of Roz and Sin, which may indicate a breakthrough of the second wall somewhere outside of Trost. The heroes encounter a new intelligent titan - the “ape titan”, or “beast-like” - and discover three more hidden werewolves in their own ranks. If Bertolt and Reiner - the “colossal” and “armored” titans already familiar from the story - are inside the walls on some secret mission, the third titan-werewolf Ymir is outside their plans and reluctantly helps them kidnap Eren. The reconnaissance squad and the military police, through huge losses, manage to recapture Eren from the titans, while the guy discovers the ability to control the titans using a coordinate-scream - just as Annie had previously done.
Soon a new kidnapping occurs - this time Eren and another fighter, the girl Christa Lenz, are captured by people from the so-called Central Military Police Department, whose orders are given only by members of the royal family. By this time, the reconnaissance squad realizes that the royal government knows a lot about titans and werewolves, and enters into a confrontation with it, even planning and carrying out a coup d'etat together with other military personnel. As it turns out, Christa is Historia Reiss, heir to the real Reiss royal dynasty, while the reigning king is only a puppet. The Reiss were also werewolves, passing on from one to another the power of the “first king” - the ability to supernaturally control not only titans, but also people. Eren's father, Grisha Yeager, already a werewolf, managed to take possession of the gift of the “first king” (he ate Frida Reiss in the guise of a titan, Historia’s half-sister), and then pass it on to his son - as a result, Eren has the power of two titans - the power of the “Attack Titan” and "Titan King". Historia refuses to obey her own father Rod and inherit the gift, which for her would mean turning into a titan and eating Eren alive - Rod turns into a huge, 120-meter titan himself, but the reconnaissance squad manages to cope with him. Historia is crowned as the new rightful queen.
Having settled the problems inside the walls, the reconnaissance squad sets out on a new expedition to the outer wall - to find and destroy the were-titans, and also to get to the basement in Shinganshin, where the heroes believe the answers to the mysteries are located. The squad gets to the city, but falls into a trap - they are waylaid by a whole army of titans and “monkey”, “colossal” and “armored” titans, they are also werewolves Zeke, Bertolt and Reiner. In a long battle, almost the entire reconnaissance squad dies, although they leave the battlefield behind them. With the opportunity to turn one of their comrades into a werewolf, the heroes are forced to choose between the seriously wounded Erwin and Armin, and choose the latter, allowing commander Erwin to die and Armin to inherit the power of the "colossal titan" Bertolt. They open the basement door and find Grisha Yeager's diaries and a photograph inside - an example of technology that does not exist in the world known to the heroes inside the walls.
Although the heroes previously believed that humanity outside the walls was destroyed by the titans, in fact, outside world there are other cities and countries where Eren's father came from. The Walls are located on the isolated island of Paradise, while the continent across the strait is ruled by the state of Marley. Once upon a time, the Marleyan people - “ordinary” people - were enslaved by the Eldians, descendants of Queen Ymir: only Eldians can turn into titans, and the unique gifts of werewolves are passed on among them. A hundred years before the events of the manga, the Marleyans overthrew the power of the Eldians and drove their enemies into ghettos; The Eldian kings retained their power only on the island within the three rings of walls. Grisha Yeager was a member of the underground Eldian movement, and Zeke was his son from his first marriage. When the movement was discovered, Grisha and his comrades were exiled to the island and turned into mindless titans, but another member of the underground, Eren Kruger, the bearer of the "Attack Titan" power, helped Grisha escape and transferred this power to him, which was later given to Eren. The heroes regain control of Outer Wall Maria and prepare for the inevitable war with the Marleyans.
The action moves forward four years and shows Marley itself: the Marleyan army, in whose ranks Zeke, Reiner and young Eldian soldiers Gabi and Falco fight, continues to use titans in the war with other powers, but the emergence of new technologies - airships, battleships and armored trains - makes Marley's advantage less and less significant. Willy Tibur, the behind-the-scenes ruler of Marley and an ethnic Eldian, convenes a peace conference with the goal of turning the entire world against Paradise Island, but the conference turns into chaos with the appearance of Eren and the members of the reconnaissance squad. Having seized the power of another werewolf - the “hammer titan”, the reconnaissance squad leaves Marley on the airship along with Zeke, who has spread to their side. Together with them, Gabi and Falco, who remained faithful to Marley, end up on the island. In previous years, Paradise was able to clear the backlog caused by a century of isolation thanks to the help of Marleyan defectors and cooperation with Hizuru, another island nation resembling Japan. Zeke, finding himself in the hands of his recent enemies, weaves a complex conspiracy in which many nationalist military men and even Eren take his side; While the announcement of Queen Historia's pregnancy disrupts the military government's previous plans, Zeke manages to escape captivity.

Nitroplus emphasized that the company itself did not take part in the development of the games; individual employees worked. The games were included with Blu-ray discs of the anime. The plot was based on the side stories of Attack on Titan.
Mobage company develops social game for iOS and Android smartphones under the title Shingeki no Kyojin ~Jiyū e no Hōkō~. The player controls a character who has been expelled from the protection of Wall Rose. The player must build and fortify a city outside the wall and expand it, creating various items, including those received from titans and other players.
A game Attack on Titan for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita video game consoles, published by Koei Tecmo and developed by Omega Force, was announced at Gamescom in 2015 and released in February 2016 in Japan. Later, the release of a version of the game in other countries was announced, as well as the release of versions for personal computers and the Xbox One console.
There is also an unofficial game called "Attack on Titan:Tribute game", in which the player is given the opportunity to fight titans by controlling characters from anime and manga or created in the editor. It has the opportunity to play online or alone, in various modes, be it clearing the map or killing a boss titan for a while.

Eren seeks to destroy the giants and explore the world. His philosophy is “Fighting is life, losing is death.” At the age of 9, he saved Mikasa, a girl whose family was killed by slave traders. Ranked only fifth among the graduating cadets of his group, as he has no special talents in the field of combat skills, but he compensates for this with great diligence and determination. During the battle in Trost, he discovers the ability to transform into a 15-meter giant. At first, the main character could not completely control the summoned titan, but after long training he received a wide range of abilities and absolute control. When the giant can no longer function, Eren emerges from the back of the titan's neck (the weak point of every titan), where his body merges with the spine. Later he discovers the ability to control giants, which is called coordinate. His father Grisha disappeared after the fall of Shiganshina, leaving Eren the key to a room in the basement of their house, which he kept locked and keeping some kind of secret.
During four years secretly from the Eldian government, he met with Elena, from whom he learned about Zeke’s plans and then began to cooperate. Soon he leaves the island without permission and infiltrates the Eldian troops on the mainland. He also rethinks his goals and becomes a cold-blooded, calculating person. Now, to achieve his goals, Eren no longer disdains means, using any available methods. He carried out a massacre in Liberio, killing both many members of the Marleyan command and ordinary residents. He greatly impressed his comrades with the cruelty and indifference shown in the massacre, causing them to doubt their trust in themselves. Indirectly causes Sasha's death. Upon returning to Paradise, he was imprisoned, but escaped. He entered into an agreement with Zeke, as a result of which he betrayed Paradise and led the Eldia revival group, which includes Flock, young soldiers of the reconnaissance squad, as well as some Marleyans.

- Dayna Fritz(Japanese: ダイナ・フリッツ Daina Furizzu) The only representative of the royal family outside the walls. She was a member of the movement for the liberation of Eldia, and then the wife of Grisha, who bore him a son, Zeke. After her son's betrayal, she was turned into a "smiling titan", which then ate Eren's mother, and later Hannes. Killed by other titans after Eren activated the Coordinate. Her last words spoken to Grisha before the transformation were: “Whatever form it takes... I will always look for you...”
- Rod Reiss(Japanese: ロッド・レイス Roddo Reis) The only survivor of the royal family, who led others behind their backs. He had 5 legitimate children, and after betrayal with the servants, Historia was born. He was always too cowardly to accept the power of the titans, which is why he assigned these responsibilities first to his brother Uri, then to his eldest daughter Frida, and then to Historia. Under pressure from Kenny Ackerman, he still injects himself with titan serum, which is why he becomes a huge 120-meter titan. Killed by Historia in Orwood County.
- Uri Reiss(Japanese: ウーリ・レイス U:ri Reisu) Brother Rod, who took on the power of the "royal titan". Because of this, his worldview completely changed. After 13 years, he transferred the power to his niece.
- Frida Reiss(Japanese: フリーダ・レイス Fury: yes to Reis) Eldest daughter Rhoda and Historia's half-sister. She became the bearer of the “royal titanium” after she absorbed her uncle Uri. The only one who communicated with Historia. She knew the whole truth of this world, which is why she had frequent mood swings. Killed by Grisha in the chapel along with her brothers, sisters and mother.
- Kenny "The Reaper" Ackerman(Japanese: ケニー・アッカーマン Keni: Akka:man) A legendary killer who, after revealing the truth of the Ackerman family, decided to pursue the Reiss family. Devoted to Uri who accepted him. Levi's uncle, who raised him after his sister's death. It was he who killed my own mother Historia, as well as many of the scout team. Tried to free Eren in the chapel so that he could fight Historia for the right to be a titan. That's where he gets mortal wounds and dies after giving Levi the titan serum.
- Flock Forster(Japanese: フロック・フォルスター Flock Forster) A young soldier in the reconnaissance squad. The only one to survive the Beast Giant's stone barrage. I thought that the right decision It would have been better to inject the serum into Erwin, not Armin. Four years later, he became a supporter of the revival of Eldia, which is why he went over to the side of Eren and Zeke, while betraying the reconnaissance squad and his comrades from Paradise.
Titans
ABOUT titans (Japanese: 巨人 kyojin) little is known: they attack instinctively and, although they devour people, in principle they do not need food and can survive by absorbing sunlight. Having filled their belly with people, the titans spit them out in the form of a huge ball. Titans do not react to animals at all. They have tough skin and the ability to regenerate, so can only be killed by making a deep cut at the base of the neck. This fact forced humanity to come up with a “spatial maneuvering device” (Japanese: 立体機動装置 rittai kido: so:chi, verb. "device for mobile maneuvering in three-dimensional space"), or abbreviated UPM. With its help, it is possible to quickly move in three-dimensional space, clinging to objects and ledges, which makes it possible to reach the weak point of the titans and, using special blades, cut their neck. The use of the device requires special physical training, excellent knowledge of information on its use and, most importantly, balance.
It is unknown how the titans appeared on Earth. The smallest are 3 meters tall, and the largest known titan - Colossus - is about 60 meters. Some titans are very similar to humans, some have a head or torso that is disproportionately huge. It is known that a titan does not require food or water to survive. Their main source of energy is the sun, otherwise they hibernate. The time that titanium is active after it stops receiving sunlight depends on the size of the titanium; the larger it is, the longer it remains active. The temperature of titanium is so high that contact with the body can cause burns, and when titans are wounded, steam escapes from the body. Despite their enormous size, the weight of titans is incredibly light. If you cut off part of a titan's body, it will quickly recover, but if you cut out the part between the back of the head and the base of the titan's neck, then it dies. It is known that in fact, some titans can take human form (Eren, Ani, Bertholdt, Reiner, Ymir, Frida, Grisha, Zeke). In human form, their bodies quickly regenerate, releasing steam. However, simple titans do not distinguish such “people” and try to eat them, like the rest. In order to take the form of a titan, they need to wound themselves and concentrate on a specific goal. The body itself ends up in the titanium’s neck - precisely in the vulnerable part. It is unknown if normal titans can have humans in their necks or if they were humans in the past. Connie, seeing the titan on the destroyed home, noted that the creature bore a striking resemblance to his mother. In the manga, there is a special type of titan that looks like a monkey, has intelligence and is able to speak, however, its motives were no different from ordinary titans. He is 17 meters tall, incredibly strong and accurate, and is also able to control ordinary titans through intimidation. This is a "beast titan" who is Zeke Yeager, the son of Grisha Yeager and Eren's half-brother. In the process of studying the titans, a theory emerged that they were all human and that if a person spends a long time in the neck of a titan, he “assimilates,” that is, finally merges with the spine. It has been noticed that titans are both normal and abnormal (dissimilar in activity), they are also capable of jumping after a victim or running on all 4 legs like a dog, they are extremely dangerous because of their activity.
They are divided into people and titans - a race of giants of unknown origin that hunts people.

Eren Yeager (Japanese エレン・イェーガー Eren Ie:ga:) - the main character of the story. Idealistic and impulsive, a maximalist, Eren strives to destroy giants and explore the world around him. Ranked only fifth among the graduating cadets of his group, as he has no special talents in the field of combat skills, but he compensates for this with great diligence and determination.

Mikasa Ackerman (Japanese ミカサ・アッカーマン Mikasa Akka:man) - a child who was sheltered by the Yeager family after the death of her relatives, unofficially the half-sister of Eren, the main female character of the anime. Mikasa is half Asian and the last of her race. Before she was accepted into the Yeager family, the girl's mother and father died at the hands of slave traders, and the girl herself was kidnapped. That evening, Eren helped Mikasa regain her freedom and together they killed the kidnappers who decided to sell the girl after the death of her parents. The murder of Mikasa's parents and Eren's mother left an indelible mark on her soul. Due to this incident, she cares for Eren very much, following him like a shadow and following him always, no matter the circumstances, not wanting to lose the last member of her family. Doesn't show his emotions to anyone. Ranked first among the graduating cadets of her group, maintains composure in any situation, and is considered an unparalleled genius in terms of combat skills. She treasures her scarf, which Eren gave her on the day he saved her from slave traders.

Armin Arlert
Armin Arlert (Japanese アルミン・アルレルト Arumin Arureruto) - Eren's best friend, considered physically weak, although his strategic intuition has repeatedly saved his friends and team. He considers himself completely incompetent and hates himself for relying on others. By soldier standards, Armin does not have high physical abilities, but is strong in battle tactics. In chapter 83, he was near death, as he sacrificed himself in the battle with Kolos. In chapter 84 he became a giant thanks to the serum that Corporal Levi injected him with. Later he ate Bertholdt and returned to human form.

Levi Ackerman
Levi Ackerman (Japanese リヴァイ Rivay) - Captain (corporal - translation error) of the reconnaissance detachment, as well as the commander of the special forces detachment. Known as “the strongest soldier of humanity,” he is quite harsh and rude, respects discipline, which makes him an unapproachable person, however, values human life, because without disgust he shakes the bloody hand of a dying comrade in order to calm him down in the last minutes of his life. After the defense, Trost takes responsibility for Eren Yeager, since, according to him, he is the only one who can stop the young man if he loses control of the titan again. He is the strongest fighter in humanity. In the battle in the “Forest of Giant Trees,” he was able to defeat a female titan, which several elite fighters could not together cope with. Member of the reconnaissance legion. He is 160 cm tall. Most likely he is a relative of Mikasa.
