We associate winter with the New Year, gifts and, of course, snow. New Year It will definitely come, we will buy gifts ourselves, but what to do with the snow? After all, it doesn’t go as ordered, and even if it falls out, it happens that it immediately melts. Don’t be sad, because there is always a way out of any situation. It may seem strange, but you can make your own fake snow and it only requires two ingredients. If you want to please yourself and your loved ones with white and fluffy snow, then don’t miss this easiest way to make artificial snow!

This simple method will help you make fluffy, not cold, snow-white artificial snow, which also will not melt. The only caveat is to not taste it, as you probably won't like it!

How to make artificial snow

To make artificial snow you only need 2 ingredients:

  • Baking soda;
  • Hair conditioner

Step #1.

Pour three glasses of soda into a deep container. This is a “trial” option. The resulting snow will be enough to decorate a Christmas tree or sculpt a miniature snowman. But the more baking soda (and conditioner) you use, the higher your snow mountains will be.

Step #2.

Any hair conditioner will work for artificial snow. But your ideal candidate is one with an organic composition and a pleasant smell. For three glasses of soda you will need half a glass of the product.

Step #3.

Now comes the fun part of this easy way to make fake snow: beat the mixture with your hands until flakes form. Don't be alarmed: they are very pleasant to the touch and do not stick to your hands at all, like fresh morning snow. And if the mixture gets sticky, just add more baking soda.

Step #4.

Your artificial snow is ready! Pour it onto a convenient surface and start getting creative or just carefree fooling around.

As you can see, thanks to this very simple way, you can make wonderful artificial snow with your own hands and please yourself and your loved ones!

Winter is in full swing, and although last year's new year holidays have already passed and have even managed to forget a little, winter-themed crafts are still relevant, especially if there are snowdrifts outside the window. Snow... It’s so good to make an original snowman that you often even want to take it home. However, the snow craft sparkling in the frosty sun will melt in the warmth in a matter of minutes, bringing grief and natural consequences. everyday problems. And if so, then let’s get down to business and learn how to make artificial snow, which will delight you and your loved ones, giving your masterpieces a truly fabulous winter flavor! In this article you will learn how to make artificial snow at home.

In fact, there is no one recipe for making artificial snow with your own hands: there are many known methods that differ from each other in the result - the resulting “snow” mass - sometimes quite strongly. However, each recipe has its adherents among craftsmen and can serve decorative purposes in its own style, for certain crafts. In this article we will look at several of the most successful, in our opinion, methods for making artificial snow and frost: we advise you to try each one, choosing for yourself best option(or variations).

For the sake of objectivity, it is worth mentioning that there are special aerosol cans with “artificial snow” on sale, the contents of which very realistically reproduce real snow, as well as corresponding powders and granules for dissolving in water. However, we will not follow this simple, but significantly more expensive path, but now we will begin to roll up our sleeves and get down to business.

Any artificial snow recipe is multi-component in structure and consists of several ingredients, which, when mixed in certain proportions and under certain conditions, give the desired result. Almost all of the proposed options are easy to make in a regular kitchen or home workshop.

How to make artificial snow at home?

Method No. 1

You can get a great sparkling result by mixing cornstarch with shaving cream and glitter. You will have to experiment with proportions to achieve the result you want. If desired (and if available, of course), you can add mint extract when kneading. Suitable instead of starch corn flour, and sparkles are often “replaced” with mica. In any case, the result of your efforts will definitely please you.

Method No. 2

Shaving foam can also be mixed with regular baking soda (sodium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate or sodium bicarbonate - they are the same thing, do not be alarmed by the differences on packaging from different manufacturers). It is important to gradually add it to the foam squeezed out in advance into a suitable container; the resulting white mass, pleasant to the touch, can be “seasoned” with sparkles, achieving the charm of snow sparkling in the sun. Usually one and a half standard packs of soda are required per can of foam.

Method No. 3

Pre-frozen toilet soap grated on a cheese grater looks incredibly believable as artificial snow. Any variety will do, as long as the color of the bar is as white as possible. Mint extract and glitter added to the resulting mass will also come in very handy for a greater decorative effect.

Method No. 4

A not-so-cheap and not-at-all-free way (although it depends on who) is to gut an ordinary baby diaper: we only need its sodium polyacrylate filler, which then needs to be torn into small pieces. This is an absorbent material that crystallizes when exposed to moisture and retains it. Therefore, the material extracted from the diaper is placed in a container and gradually poured clean water, just make sure that there is not more than enough to form “snow”. If you have doubts about the harmlessness of sodium polyacrylate, take into account the fact that you took it out of the thing that is most loyal to the baby’s sensitive body - a diaper.

Method No. 5

In nature, snow, as you know, can look somewhat different, while remaining the same snow. That's this method offers a slightly unique artificial snow - it is best used to create “snow massifs”, “snow-covered expanses”. You will need ordinary starch, PVA glue and silver paint: just take one equal part at a time (usually it is calculated in the volume of 2 tablespoons, but this is not important) and mix and grind thoroughly until you get the “snowy” mass you need.

Method number 6

This is not really snow, or rather, not snow at all, but “frost”, which may be required to create believable compositions. Sprigs of pine needles, ordinary twigs and grass are covered for this purpose with a very cool salt solution, which, when dried, crystallizes on their surface and shines, just like real frost! And achieving this effect is very simple: gradually pour coarse table salt into a container with hot water on the stove over low heat, and when the salt stops dissolving, turn off the heat and lower the pre-prepared plants into the solution. The twigs with future “frost” are infused until the water cools, then taken out and dried under normal conditions for about 4-5 hours - you will see the result for yourself!

Method No. 7

Often, to design a “winter” craft, you may need the so-called. "snow paint" To prepare it, let's take the shaving cream we already know (the brand doesn't matter - the main thing is that it is white), PVA glue, as well as the ubiquitous glitter - where would we be without them, and mint extract. Well-mixed ingredients form a characteristic mass, which is applied with a brush or sponge and can be used to either tint a craft or fully draw on a plane, for example, snowmen.

OK it's all over Now. “The Magic Seven” completes our selection of the most available ways making artificial snow to decorate crafts on a “winter” theme, giving them the necessary charm and appropriate color. In fact, there are almost three times as many such methods, however, those presented here will be quite enough to create real masterpieces!

Several recipes for use in decorating, crafts, winter games with children, for the development of motor skills and sensory skills and for home experiments!

IDEA No. 1 SNOW FROM FOAM

How to do it. You need to grate the foam on a grater.

Where to use. You can decorate branches with it, which must first be smeared with glue (add a little glitter to the foam, the snow on the branches will sparkle beautifully).

IDEA No. 2 SNOW FROM SALT (large, small and growing crystals from salt)

You can use coarse and fine salt for games and sensory boxes. You can also make frost from salt.

How to grow a snowflake from salt watch the master class.

How to make frost. You need to pour regular salt into boiling water over a fire and let it completely dissolve (1 kg of salt is taken per 1 liter clean water). After this, put only dry and clean branches there and leave to cool. From the cooled down saline solution Carefully remove the branches and dry thoroughly.

Preference should be given to coarse grinding so that the resulting crystals look as natural as possible. And to get the effect of colored frost, salt can be colored with ordinary food coloring, ink or brilliant green.

This method is convenient for covering with frost. small size twigs, umbrellas of dill and other dried herbs.

IDEA #3 SNOW FROM DIAPERS sodium polycarbonate

Compound:

Sodium polycarbonate (found in diapers, similar to cotton);

Regular tap water;

Container for making artificial snow.

After cutting the diaper, we take out the sodium polycarbonate. Then pour it into a container and add a little water. Mix thoroughly. Water must be added until our diaper filling, that is, sodium polycarbonate, looks like real snow. The most important thing is not to overdo it with water. In order for our artificial snow to be cold, you just need to place it in the refrigerator. Here you should pay attention to the temperature, which should not be below zero, otherwise it will not be snow, but ice. If these conditions are met, everything should work out! Using this method, you can also make multi-colored snow with your own hands by adding food coloring to the container.

IDEA No. 4 SNOW FROM WAX CANDLE

You can grate white soap or a candle. The resulting shavings must be mixed with baby powder or starch so that the “snow” does not cake or stick together.

IDEA No. 5 SNOW FROM RICE, OATMEAL, SEMONA

It can be made from rice (it is better to take round and white), oatmeal, semolina

IDEA No. 6 SNOW FROM COTTON COTTON BALLS

IDEA No. 7 SNOW FROM WHITE POMPOMS

IDEA No. 8 SNOW FROM STARCH

There's more you can do white crumbs from corn or potato starch with the addition vegetable oil or hair balm. Interesting ideas, is in my favorite book “Iceberg on the carpet or what to play with a child” by Asya Vanyakina (pm me, I’ll share).

IDEA No. 9 SNOW FROM SUGAR (sand and pieces)

IDEA No. 10 SNOW FROM A SPRAY CAN

The simplest and easiest way is to decorate with artificial frost or snow from a spray can. Matte, shiny, crumbly, coarse or finer - you can choose what you like best. Just spray this miracle from a can onto the prepared bouquet, and it will sparkle, bringing that frosty mood into your home!

IDEA #11 FLOUR

IDEA #12 SHAVING FOAM SNOW

You can use just white foam, or you can make crumbly snow from which you can make snowballs.

You need to mix about a pack baking soda with about a can of shaving foam. By kneading a mass of these ingredients, you will get a cool, snow-like substance, from which snowballs and snowballs are indeed molded.

IDEA No. 13 SNOW FROM PACKING BAGS

You will need:
- foamed polyethylene; (material that is used as packaging material for breakable objects, and also inserted into the bow new shoes, to maintain the shape.)
- fine grater
- scissors.

It is advisable to work with gloves. With a little effort, we get the following result. But if you are not satisfied with this result, you can experiment further. Let's take scissors and finely cut our snow flakes.

IDEA No. 14 PAPER SNOW

You can make a beautiful snow bouquet using cut paper. You will need white or pale blue paper (for example, paper napkins), thin foil (Christmas tree tinsel). This entire paper “collection” needs to be crumbled into pieces of the chosen shape. You can cut out circles using a hole punch, or make small cuts, thin strips or any arbitrary shapes. Mix the paper in a dry and sufficiently large container. Carefully dip the collected branches into glue (clerical or PVA) and sprinkle with prepared frost. Leave the frost to dry and your snow bouquet is ready!

IDEA No. 15 SNOW FROM POWDERED SUGAR

Frost can be made not only on branches, but also on fruits. Why not a New Year's bouquet with a frosty apple or a tangerine in the snow? Apply fresh egg white to well-washed and dried fruits and, without wasting time, sprinkle the fruits with sugar or powdered sugar. Add a couple of spruce branches, dry maple or holly leaves to the fruit and your bouquet is ready!

IDEA No. 16 SOAP SNOW

Option #1. From soap and toilet paper.

Prepare 2-3 rolls of white toilet paper and a bar of white soap. Tear into small pieces. Microwave the dish with the paper mixture and the whole bar of soap for 1 minute. Check the contents every 15 seconds. In the oven, the mass should fluff up. Now the soap has become soft and crumbles right in your hands. Fill the mixture with water. First add 1 cup, then add another half cup. Now you can form a snowball.

Option number 2. From grated soap and powder.

Grate white soap and mix with baby powder.

SNOW BALLS

This substance is made by spraying water into the air. In this case, the liquid is sprayed into the device under high pressure. Thus, the process of nuclearization occurs when liquid crystals solidify in the air and thereby form a snow mass. The dimensions of these crystals are negligible and range from 0.1 to 10 microns (1 micron is equal to 0.001 millimeters).

What is artificial snow made from?

Other water droplets are layered on individual ice particles. As a result, larger crystals of frozen water are formed. They are layered until they finally go from the gun to the surface of the earth. This time is quite enough to get artificial snow. At home, of course, you are unlikely to be able to create such a “special effect”. The fact is that for such work a special Technical equipment, costing hundreds of thousands of rubles. But you can create artificial snow with your own hands only from paper fiber or cotton wool, because purchasing such equipment will be too unprofitable.

In order for the crystals of the sprayed liquid to completely freeze when falling to the ground during snow formation, it is enough to use this equipment at an air temperature of -3 to -10 degrees Celsius. At this temperature, water particles effectively freeze and become covered with a sufficient layer of ice.

Advantages

The presence of a nucleator significantly increases the likelihood of snow formation. With each new drop you increase the volume of snow (in a few minutes you can create a layer of several tens of centimeters). Moreover, the nucleator can produce both natural nuclei (for example, sand grains, mineral particles and dust) and mechanical ones (a mixture of water and biological ones; in any case, this device will produce a large number of crystals with minimal water content.

What is the output?

We have already looked at what artificial snow is made from, and found out that these are two natural components - water and air. And what the nucleator transforms these two substances into through its actions is called crystals. In simple words, small droplets of water fly out of the cannon, easily freezing at temperatures from -3 In addition, the nuclei of such particles look more natural, since they contain the already formed core of the future crystal. At the same time, such artificial snow is very sensitive to above-zero temperatures. Since these particles have low resistance to heat, at an air temperature of 0 degrees or more they simply melt, and very quickly. By the way, from one cubic meter of water you can get up to 2-2.5 cubic meters of artificial snow.

What determines the quality of the crystals produced?

How high-quality and resistant to temperature changes the snow will be directly depends on the liquid pressure generated in the snow gun, the design of the tool nozzle and, of course, the humidity and heating of the air itself.

So, in the article we looked at what artificial snow is made from and what properties it has.

Hello, friends! The ShkolaLa blog welcomes you to your home laboratory and congratulates you on the coming of winter!

Let me introduce our young fearless experimenters Alexandra and Artem.

Oh, so much interesting experiments They've already remade it, they've learned so many new things! But everything is not enough for them. And today the guys will try to surprise you again. They will make snow from starch! With your own hands!

Starch is generally a very cool product. You can make a lot of things out of it. For example, a non-Newtonian fluid.

Snow made from starch looks like real snow, though not cold and very fragrant, since the recipe uses baby cosmetic oil. And after playing with it, your hands become soft and tender. But less words, more action. Let's start the experiment.

After the camera was turned off, the game with artificial snow continued for about an hour and a half. Isn't this what all parents want?

To keep children busy, preferably not with gadgets and preferably with something educational. Children's fine motor skills will thank you very much for this!

Now more about the recipe. To make snow you need:

  1. starch;
  2. oil.

We had corn starch, but, strangely enough, there was no potato starch in the store. But potato is also quite suitable. And we took children's cosmetic oil. But you can take regular sunflower instead.

Starch required 400 grams. Oils 200 ml.

All this needs to be mixed well and that’s it. The snow is ready! You can play!

Try it! You'll like it!

Of course, in winter there is a lot of snow outside. But you can’t play with it at home, it will melt and that’s it. And from our snowball you can make various crafts, some winter and even New Year’s compositions.

You can plant a Christmas tree in it and put small animal toys in a round dance.

In addition, the resulting mixture is absolutely safe for children's hands. And, let me tell you, it has anti-stress qualities. You touch it with your hands, finger it and calm down.

We wish you a fun and interesting winter!

Come visit us again, we'll be glad to see you!

Artem, Alexandra and Evgenia Klimkovich!
