Arzamas railway accident. Most Arzamas residents saw the explosion approximately as in this photograph.

And only then did they find out:

On June 4, 1988, at 09.32, a train containing 3 cars with 121 tons of hexogen intended for mining enterprises was passing through a railway crossing in the city of Arzamas, a few hundred meters from the Arzamas-I station. At that moment an explosion occurred.

The force of the explosion was such that a crater 26 meters deep remained in place, and section “B” of the 2TE10M-0405 diesel locomotive was thrown back 2 km. The explosion destroyed 151 houses, leaving more than 800 families homeless. According to official data, 91 people died and 1,500 were injured. 250 meters of the railway track were destroyed, the railway station was damaged, an electrical substation and power lines were destroyed, and a gas pipeline was damaged. 2 hospitals, 49 kindergartens, 14 schools, 69 shops were damaged.

The main version of the explosion is considered to be a violation of loading and transportation rules explosives, although one of the versions was considered both a terrorist act and sabotage by the special services of other countries. Photographs of the city can only convey part of the devastation.

The version of deliberate undermining of the composition was quite popular in the local community. It was assumed that the purpose of the action was to cause maximum damage to the city of Arzamas. The version was based on the fact that the explosion occurred in suspicious proximity to the city. In addition, in Nizhny Novgorod Before the explosion, a wall calendar-poster with an image of Oleg Yankovsky was quite common, on which the date of the disaster was highlighted by a typographical defect - underlining in the form of a square bracket drawn with one stroke, placed on its side. The watch on the artist’s wrist showed the time of the explosion. There were rumors that on the artist’s jacket one could see the word “Arzamas” typed in microfont, but last statement failed to check.

In Arzamas, a chapel and a memorial were built at the site of the explosion, on which the names of the victims are carved. Every year on June 4, the city hosts mourning events dedicated to the memory of those killed in the explosion.

And in 1989, the second largest train accident in the history of Russia and the USSR occurred. On the stretch between the Asha and Ulu-Telyak stations, while two passenger trains were passing, a cloud of gas exploded, leaking from a damaged product pipeline. 575 people were killed, 623 were injured. A narrow gap 1.7 m long appeared on the pipe of the Western Siberia-Ural-Volga region product pipeline, through which a wide fraction of light hydrocarbons (liquefied gas-gasoline mixture) was transported.

Due to pipeline leakage and special weather conditions gas accumulated in the lowland along which the Trans-Siberian Railway passed 900 m from the pipeline, the Ulu-Telyak - Asha section of the Kuibyshev Railway, the 1710th kilometer of the highway, 11 km from the Asha station, on the territory of the Iglinsky district of the Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. Approximately three hours before the disaster, instruments showed a drop in pressure in the pipeline. However, instead of looking for a leak, the duty personnel only increased the gas supply to restore pressure. The drivers of passing trains warned the train dispatcher of the section that there was heavy gas pollution on the section, but they did not attach any importance to this.

On June 4, 1989, at 01:15 local time (June 3 at 23:15 Moscow time), when two passenger trains met, a powerful volumetric gas explosion occurred and a gigantic fire broke out. Trains No. 211 “Novosibirsk-Adler” (20 cars, locomotive VL10-901) and No. 212 “Adler-Novosibirsk” (18 cars, locomotive ChS2-689) carried 1,284 passengers (including 383 children) and 86 members of the train and locomotive crews.

The shock wave threw 11 cars off the tracks, 7 of them were completely burned. The remaining 27 cars were burned on the outside and burned out inside. According to official data, 575 people died (according to other sources - 645); 623 became disabled, receiving severe burns and injuries. There were 181 children among the dead.

European zodiac sign Gemini

Dates: 2013-05-21 -2013-06-21

The four Elements and their Signs are distributed as follows: Fire(Aries, Leo and Sagittarius), Earth(Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn), Air(Gemini, Libra and Aquarius) and Water(Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces). Since the elements help to describe the main character traits of a person, by including them in our horoscope, they help to form a more complete picture of a particular person.

Features of this element are warmth and humidity, flexibility, divisibility, adaptability. In the Zodiac, these qualities correspond to the air trine (triangle): Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. The trine of Air is considered the trine of ideas and intellectuality. Principle: exchange, contact.
Air determines contacts and relationships. The element of Air endows a person with such qualities as mobility, activity, liveliness, changeability, flexibility, agility, receptivity, omnipresence, limitlessness, curiosity. The air is independent, free. It is responsible for the basic processes on Earth - movement, reproduction, procreation, that is, for the transmission of life.
People whose horoscopes express the element of Air have a sanguine temperament. Such people can make an impression. They are quick in decisions and deeds, easily and quickly grasp any information, then pass it all on to other people, processed in their own way. They instantly adapt to any changes and changes in life. They are characterized by spiritual flexibility, mental lability, mental mobility, they are tireless as long as they are passionate about something. The monotony tires them.
The character flaws of people of the Air element include a lack of thoroughness and depth in the sphere of thinking, in the sphere of feelings and activity; they are very unreliable and cannot be relied on. They are too superficial, nervous, indecisive, their goals and plans constantly fluctuate and change. But they can present their shortcomings as advantages.
Not a single trine has such abilities for diplomacy and a secular lifestyle as the Air trine. He is a virtuoso in the ability to establish numerous and varied connections, to grasp, connect and use heterogeneous information. Air people do not tolerate a sedentary lifestyle, business routine, and most often do not have a stable profession, unless it is related to information, travel and contacts.
People of the Air trigon have the greatest success in the field of science, technology, the world of art, especially literature. And journalism is simply their element. The best helpers of these people in their work are their constant desire for more and more new impressions, new experiences, continuous exchange of thoughts and ideas, views and opinions with the people around them and their ability to establish quick connections and contacts. Their ideal is to be at the center of all events.
Most often, people of the Air element do not fit into the generally accepted framework because of their craving for freedom, they do not like obligations, and avoid excessive dramatization of relationships. Even ordinary family life for them it may seem like a certain “cross”, from which they will try to escape or, at least, ease it.
Monotony and monotony are their worst enemy, therefore crises in the sphere of love and marriage for them ordinary story. Their superficial feelings can quickly ignite and be inspired, and close contacts can begin even from the first meeting and with the first person they meet, but all this will continue exactly until they meet the next object of delight and admiration, until a new reason for inspiration and passion.
To parents and educators of children of the Air trine Special attention One should pay attention to their excessive idealism, superficiality of thinking, and susceptibility to other people's influence. Therefore, it is necessary to lay in them as early as possible that moral core that will be their support in life. Since the child of this trine is very susceptible to both bad and good influences, it is very important who is next to him. The role of parents in choosing friends is very important. You need to be in constant contact with such a child, participate in his affairs and be nearby during rest, then the spiritual connection between parents and child will remain until the end of his life.
The greatest advantage of people of this element is the ability to contact the outside world, the ability to connect people and circumstances, and the greatest danger is mental and spiritual fragmentation, which often causes unnecessary worries and disappointments.

Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. The mutable cross is the cross of reason, connection, adaptation, distribution. The main quality is the transformation of ideas. He is always here and now, that is, in the present. It gives mobility, flexibility, adaptability, flexibility, duality. People in whose horoscopes the Sun, Moon or most of the personal planets are in mutable signs have diplomatic abilities. They have a flexible mind and subtle intuition. They are usually very careful, prudent, vigilant and constantly in a state of anticipation, which helps them adapt to any situation. The main thing for them is to have information. When they feel not very competent or informed in any matter, they are excellent at evading and dodging everyone and everything, although they are considered the most knowledgeable of the entire Zodiac. They are sociable, courteous, talkative, and interesting conversationalists. They easily and skillfully give up positions, admit their mistakes and blunders, and agree with their opponents and interlocutors. People of the mutable cross strive for inner harmony, agreement, mediation and cooperation, but are subject to strong internal anxiety and external influence. Their greatest passion is curiosity, which forces them to be in constant motion. Their views and worldview are rather unstable and depend on the environment. They often lack their own point of view. This partly explains the reasons for their imbalance and inconstancy, the changes in their lives. The true goals and plans of these people are difficult to predict, but they almost accurately guess the plans of others. They take advantage of every opportunity that can bring them benefit or profit, and skillfully manage to circumvent the blows of fate. People with a mutable cross are born realists. To achieve their goal, they use numerous friends, acquaintances, neighbors, relatives, co-workers, even strangers. Life crises are easily experienced and quickly forgotten. If not straight path to a life goal, then they will take a roundabout path, thinking through every step, bypassing all visible sharp corners, bypassing all pitfalls. What helps them is their natural cunning and slyness, flattery and deception, and ability to deceive. Mutable signs will help out of any abnormal, unusual situation; such a situation will not make them nervous, they will only feel their element, in which they can finally act. At the same time, their psyche and nervous system very unstable. Serious obstacles can quickly incapacitate them, unsettle them and delay the achievement of their goals. In this case, they do not resist, but go with the flow.

A terrible and terrible disaster occurred on June 4, 1988 in Arzamas...
Monument to those killed in the explosion on June 4, 1988 in Arzamas.

May 31, 1988 at the plant named after. Sverdlov in Dzerzhinsk, 10 freight cars were loaded with explosives intended for mining operations.
On June 3, three of them, as the lead cars of freight train No. 3115, headed to the south of the country. The first all-metal car contained 30 tons of TNT in checkers, packed in corrugated cardboard boxes, and 286 kg of cumulative detonators in fiberboard boxes. The second, similar to the first, carried 27.28 tons of octogen and 30.4 tons of phlegmatized hexogen, packed in six-layer paper bags. The third carriage was wooden. It contained 5 tons of rock ammonite and 25 tons of ammonal in paper cartridges, sealed with cellophane and packed in cardboard boxes.
A freight train of 54 cars at a speed of about 22 km per hour approached the 232nd km of the Soloveyka - Arzamas-1 section of the Gorky Railway, 324 meters from the Arzamas-1 station...
A total of 117 tons and 966 kg of explosives were loaded into the cars.

It is generally accepted that the explosion occurred at 9:32 am Moscow time. It is at this mark that the clock hands “stop” on the dial installed on the memorial in Arzamas. However, KGB officers who minutely studied the movements of the train and interviewed witnesses believe that it exploded at 9:26 am.
According to eyewitnesses:
Sergey:
- I was at the scene of the tragedy in 5-7 minutes. I saw everything with my own eyes, helped load the corpses, or rather what was left of them...
The body of a policeman lying on the platform is etched in my memory for the rest of my life. His hair was completely burned off. Black, like a mannequin, he flew out of the shoes...
I didn't recognize the place right away. The station building was not seriously damaged, only the roof was blown off. In the area at that time there were only small private one-story houses. Within a radius of 100-150 meters they were blown away.
Windows were blown out over a larger radius. In our apartment, they were completely thrown out from the direction of the explosion. Poles with tangled wires were knocked down, trees were uprooted.
On the road, approximately 50 meters from the railway track, there was a regular bus. His entire top was completely blown off. The main victims were from it... Some corpses were loaded from there simply by weight, because it was impossible to make out who was who...

From inspection materials
On the stretch, two interconnected craters with a depth of 3.5 and 4.5 meters, with a diameter of 26 and 76 meters, formed.
Complete destruction - radius 150 m - 44 houses.
Severe destruction - radius 300 m - 107 houses.
Medium destruction - radius 650 m - 120 houses.
Light damage - radius 900 m - 130 houses.
The official death toll is 91 people. About 800 people were injured of varying severity.

Versions:
Simultaneously with the start of restoration work, KGB officers and experts began an investigation. Eight versions of what happened were considered.
1st. Inside the carriage
Thermal decomposition of explosives due to their chemical instability, movement of a thin layer of explosives between hard rubbing surfaces, strong mechanical shock to a thin layer of explosives, a spark from a discharge of static electricity and the shooting of explosives inside a car by a bullet, shock wave action from a capsule detonator or electric detonator.
2nd. Outside the carriage
Ignition and explosion of the gas-air mixture (there was a gas pipeline hundreds of meters underground, and many witnesses stated that they smelled gas before the explosion), burning of the axlebox from a spark due to the contact wire touching the metal roof.
We will not analyze each of these cases in detail; the experts’ reasoning takes up more than one page of the conclusion. Let's just say that a multiple number of tests were simulated. Exactly the same carriages were placed at the training grounds and weapons were fired at them. They tried to set the explosives on fire and threw weights on them. Witnesses were interviewed. They analyzed the method of loading explosives and the condition of the cars themselves - the remaining seven that left the Dzerzhinsky chemical enterprise that day.

Some eyewitnesses saw flames and smoke coming from the bottom of the second carriage of the train before the explosion. As it turned out later, the cargo was transported in them with gross violations: the loaders stacked bags with explosives in 11 rows, although according to the rules there should be no more than 7.
To throw the bags to such a height, they used them as footrests.
In one of the cars, 1.6 kg of HMX, wire cuttings and nails were found on the floor. The bags were not secured in any way, and from the shocks of the train they could easily fall and crumble.
As the security officers established, the car with HMX-RDX was subjected to dynamic impacts in the form of jolts and stops 19 times (!!!) at the Gorky-Sortirovochny station alone, and in addition, in violation of all safety requirements for transporting such cargo, it went down the hill twice. It is difficult to imagine how many casualties and destruction could have occurred if explosives had gone off at this major railway junction.
Of all the explosives transported, HMX is the most sensitive to shock and friction, after which it ignites and detonates.

The nature of the craters from the explosion and its epicenter indicated that it was the fire in the second car that initiated the explosion.
Hot weather, the thermometer that morning showed 27 degrees above zero... A metal carriage heated by the sun... HMX scattered on the floor, trapped under a metal door roller... Fire... Explosion... Death...

June 6th, 2015

I probably heard about it at that time, but due to my young age I didn’t remember it. Now I read a post on a friend’s feed and was horrified by the scale of these man-made disasters.

Original taken from pilip_pilipich in Early June 1988 and 1989...

On June 4, 1988, at the Arzamas-1 station of the Gorky Railway, at 9.30 a major accident occurred. As the freight train approached the station, an explosion was heard. It was so powerful that the windows of many houses located more than 2 kilometers away from the station were blown out. The locomotive overturned and was thrown to the side. The station building was partially damaged. Old wooden residential buildings and industrial buildings were severely damaged. Small fires started in many places. The carriages went into a ditch, the rails were distorted...

On June 3-4, 1989, 11 km from the city of Asha, Chelyabinsk region, during the passage of two passenger trains, an accident occurred. powerful explosion gas-air mixture formed as a result of an accident on the nearby Siberia-Ural-Volga region pipeline. 575 people were killed and more than 600 were injured.

Arzamas tragedy.

On June 4, 1988, at 9:32 a.m., three carriages of a freight train traveling from Dzerzhinsk to Kazakhstan, with 118 tons of industrial explosives intended for mining enterprises, exploded at the Arzamas-1 station of the Gorky Railway. 91 people were killed, including 17 children, 840 were injured. 250 meters of the railway track, the railway station and station buildings, and nearby residential buildings were destroyed. The government commission did not establish the cause of the explosion.

Then Arzamas experienced a terrible tragedy. On Saturday, June 4, 1988, at 9:32 a.m., a powerful, deafening explosion echoed throughout the area. A huge column of smoke rose high into the sky, forming an ominous mushroom shape. This happened on the northwestern outskirts of the city, when three cars of freight train No. 3115, traveling to Arzamas-16 from Dzerzhinsk from the Sverdlov plant, exploded on the approach to the Arzamas-1 station. The cars contained about 118 tons of industrial explosives intended for mining enterprises in the south of the country.
As a result of an explosion of monstrous force, 1,530 residential buildings were swept away from the face of the earth, utility lines, transport facilities and utilities. A huge crater with a diameter of 52 meters and a depth of 26 meters (the height of a nine-story building) was formed, into which mangled wagons with special cargo rolled down. It was this cargo that caused the disaster.

The blast wave lifted into the air everything in the area of half a kilometer from the epicenter. In a matter of seconds, the entire Zheleznodorozhnikov microdistrict was wiped off the face of the earth. According to official data from the local administration, 91 people died, including 14 children. But these figures refer only to residents of Arzamas, and at the closed crossing at the time of the explosion there were cars and buses from Diveyevo and other cities. There is practically nothing left of them. The people who died here were buried in their homeland, and therefore they were not included in the Arzamas mourning list.
Even according to the most approximate estimates, 1,500 - 2,000 people were injured that day. It is known for sure that 43 Arzamas residents became disabled of the 1st and 2nd groups, and 20 received the third. Five children also became disabled. 49 minors from Arzamas lost their parents that day. Seven of them were left orphans.
27 years have passed since then, but to this day the causes of the Arzamas tragedy have not been fully investigated. And despite the fact that the government commission, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the prosecutor’s office, the KGB, and the railway workers themselves were involved in the investigation, the official version of the disaster was never made public. Moreover, it is not even completely known what exactly was in the cars. It is assumed that this is hexogen. At the same time, none of the versions being pursued by the KGB and other departments were confirmed. Initially, law enforcement officials did not rule out the possibility of sabotage. There was an oil depot near the scene of the incident, and if the train had been closer to it at the time of the explosion, the consequences could well have been even worse.

There was also a proposal that the explosion occurred due to a gas leak from a gas pipeline passing under the railway tracks, from an accidental spark knocked out by the train wheels. They even conducted a similar experiment, but it completely refuted this hypothesis. It was also impossible to attribute the explosion to someone’s carelessness.
Gradually life returned to its normal course. By November 1988, 11 houses were built in the new eleventh microdistrict and 300 houses in the private sector in the Kirillovsky microdistrict. Almost 900 families celebrated housewarming. Today over memorial plaques with the names of the dead, the branches of young birches rustle as a symbol that life goes on.

Many years have passed since then, and a long time ago people stopped being disturbed by various versions of what happened - that’s how human memory works. All the details of the tragedy are remembered only by those who buried their relatives and friends, who were left crippled. And also those who bore human pain and impotent anger on their shoulders. It is they who, every year on the day of the tragedy, gather at the monument to the victims of the explosion in Arzamas and remember, remember, remember...

Railway disaster near Ufa.

The disaster is considered the largest in the history of the USSR and Russia.
Trains number 211 Novosibirsk-Adler (20 cars) and number 212 Adler-Novosibirsk (18 cars) carried 1,284 passengers, including 383 children and 86 people from train and locomotive crews.
The train from Novosibirsk that night was late due to technical reasons, and the oncoming train stopped at an intermediate station shortly before the accident for an emergency disembarkation - a woman went into labor right in the carriage.
Many passengers traveling to Adler were already looking forward to relaxing holiday on the sea. Those who, on the contrary, were already returning from vacation, were driving towards them. The explosion of a large volume of gas distributed in space had the character of a volumetric explosion. The power of the explosion was estimated at 300 tons of trinitrotoluene. According to other estimates, the power of a volumetric explosion could reach 10 kilotons of TNT, which is comparable to the power nuclear explosion in Hiroshima (12.5 kilotons). The force of the explosion was such that the shock wave broke windows in the city of Asha, located more than 10 km from the scene of the incident. The column of flame was visible more than 100 km away. 350 meters of railway tracks and 17 kilometers of overhead communication lines were destroyed. The fire caused by the explosion engulfed an area of about 250 hectares. Official version claims that the gas leak from the product pipeline was made possible due to damage caused to it by an excavator bucket during its construction in October 1985, four years before the disaster. The leak began 40 minutes before the explosion. According to another version, the cause of the accident was the corrosive effect on the outer part of the pipe of electric leakage currents, the so-called “stray currents” of the railway. 2-3 weeks before the explosion, a micro fistula formed, then, as a result of cooling of the pipe, a crack that grew in length appeared at the point of gas expansion. Liquid condensate soaked the soil at the depth of the trench, without coming out, and gradually descended down the slope to railway. When the two trains met, probably as a result of braking, a spark occurred, which caused the gas to detonate. But most likely the cause of gas detonation was an accidental spark from under the pantograph of one of the locomotives.

The explosion destroyed 38 cars and two electric locomotives. 11 cars were thrown off the tracks by the shock wave. In a radius of three kilometers around the epicenter, centuries-old trees were felled.

Emergency rescue operations were carried out by the Commission for emergency situations Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (now the Republic of Bashkortostan). Ambulance teams and sanitary squads worked on the spot. The victims were evacuated from the scene of the accident by cars, buses, and helicopters.

That day, helicopters were circling over Ufa, but there was no information. The helicopters landed on the square behind the State Circus, which Ufa residents have since called “helicopter square”. This is now a training ground for novice car enthusiasts.
