EXPEDITION TO THE UPPER RIVERS ORUCHAT AND GORALYKOL Krasnodar Expedition Center regional office The Russian Geographical Society successfully completed the fifth expeditionary study of lakes and glaciers of Teberda biosphere reserve. The anniversary expedition is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Teberda State Natural Biosphere Reserve and the 70th anniversary of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society. This is the next link in the multi-stage research expedition project “Current state of the lakes of the Teberda Nature Reserve and adjacent territories.” The 2016 stage covered the basin of the Oruchat and Goralykol rivers, in the upper reaches of which 10 lakes were surveyed. The expedition participants clarified information about the number of lakes in the study area, their size and location, and received information By- current state reservoirs and the degree of their degradation, and also collected data on newly formed lakes in the study area due to climate change and degradation of modern glaciation. Based on the collected data, an environmental assessment of the state of lake reservoirs will be carried out and recommendations on the possible recreational use of lakes will be developed. Based on the results of the next expedition stage, the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society will provide a scientific report to the Teberda Nature Reserve. By the way, over five years of expeditionary research, the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society examined 63 lakes of the Teberda Nature Reserve (46.32% of total number lakes of the river basin Teberda). Based on the results of many years of scientific research expeditionary activity, a number of scientific articles were published and the manuscript of the monograph “Lakes of the Teberda Nature Reserve and Adjacent Territories” (ecological and recreational aspects) was prepared for publication and sent for publication. Authors: Efremov Yu. V. - Professor, Doctor of Science. Sc., Deputy Chairman for scientific activity KRO RGO, A.V. Belousov is the head of the Expedition Center of the KRO RGS. Detailed analysis and the results of surveys of lakes and glaciers in the valley of the Oruchat and Goralykol rivers this year are planned to be published in the next collection scientific works"Bulletin of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society." In addition, the results will be reflected in a detailed report and in a report on International Mountain Day 2016. In addition, for the third year in a row, research has been carried out on the historical geography of the upper reaches of the river. Teberd, associated with the researchers of the Caucasus (A.K. Mekk, N.A. Bush, N.Ya. Dinnik, A.N. Dyachkov-Tarasov, B.A. Vorontsov-Velyaminov) and with the stories of the origin of geographical names. So, this year, in the final part of the expedition, its participants visited the ruins of the old village of Dzhemagat (the basin of the Dzhemagat River). For more than 180 years, scientists, historians, Lermontov researchers and simply amateurs have been interested in the location of the village of Dzhemat, mentioned in M. Yu. Lermontov’s work “Hadji Abrek”! Kuban researchers collected the information necessary for further geoliterary research to determine that the village of Dzhemat, mentioned by Lermontov, is nothing more than the Karachay village of Dzhemagat. This version was first put forward in 1899 by the famous ethnographer and local historian of the Caucasus, A. N. Dyachkov-Tarasov, in his work “In the Mountains of Big and Small Karachay.” The expedition members express their gratitude to Jamal Kemalovich Tekeev, Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the Teberda State Natural Biosphere Reserve for his assistance in organizing the scientific expedition survey of lakes and glaciers. A.V. Belousov, acting Head of the Expedition Center of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society

The expedition center of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society, together with the Teberda State Natural Biosphere Reserve, published a scientific monograph “Lakes of the Teberda Nature Reserve and adjacent territories (Ecological and recreational aspects)” Proceedings of the Teberda Nature Reserve No. 61.

The authors of this work are: Professor of the Department of Regional and Marine Geology of Kuban State University, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Honorary Member of the Russian Geographical Society Yuri Vasilievich Efremov and traveler, photographer, researcher, head of the Expedition Center of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society Alexander Vladimirovich Belousov, as well as deputy director of the Teberda Nature Reserve Alexey Nikolaevich Bok.

The lakes of the Teberdinsky Biosphere Reserve are real precious pearls that harmoniously combine with the appearance of the Caucasian nature. The book introduces readers to the history of the development and spread of lakes in this region. The patterns of emergence and further development of lake reservoirs are analyzed. Special attention The book focuses on the ecological state and recreational opportunities of lakes located on the territory of the reserve and adjacent territories. The most popular, as well as hard-to-reach lakes in this region are described and routes to lakes that are extremely rarely visited by tourists are suggested.

The book is of great interest for geographers and tourism instructors, tour guides, tourists and a wide range of readers, and can also be used as a manual for students of relevant specialties in higher educational institutions.

It is very significant that the book was published in the Year of Ecology and is dedicated to the 100th anniversary reserve system Russia, and the 80th anniversary of the Teberda Nature Reserve.

Who is a geopatriot? On this moment precise definition this word does not exist... Neither in dictionaries, nor in encyclopedias, and even the all-knowing Yandex is trying to correct the “error” in search query to normal" patriot"But in fact, there is only a delightful combination of two principles - “geo” and “patriot”... And it leads us to completely correct associations in the understanding of the new word.
Geopatriotism - love to geographical objects their homeland - a unique country with a rich cultural and natural heritage. But not just silent love at a distance, but effective love, as if calling to do something for your country, even a small reciprocal action, but to do it!
What am I talking about..?

Three times! For participants from other regions. But... I didn’t vote))))) My personal geopatriotism spoke to me, which became the catalyst for writing this article.

But this award is even closer to all residents of Kuban than to other Russians!!! Why? Let's take a little plunge into the short, but already so bright The story of the Crystal Compass...

Today the author of one of the leading projects in our region is visiting Geographochka:

- leader and organizer of expeditions, full member of the Expedition Center of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society.

You can read in detail about the project and watch its presentation on the project page on the Crystal Compass Award website. It was from her that I took these three frame pictures.

This is a real project, implemented, but not completed, because... The study of the lakes of the Teberda Nature Reserve and adjacent territories continues!

And I managed to interview the author of the project, Alexander Vladimirovich Belousov...

1. Alexander Vladimirovich, how did you come to the Russian Geographical Society? How did you begin to participate and conduct expeditions?

I have been interested in mountains for quite some time. At the first stages I went on hikes, later - with certain specific goals in the expedition. Initially, I plan all my hikes and expeditions on my own, so along the way I had to master a lot of useful related disciplines: cartography, navigation, orienteering, etc.
So, in December 2010 at International Day I was lucky enough to meet the famous scientist and researcher Yu.V. Efremov. This event became significant for me. Having become acquainted with my tourist and expedition experience, Yuri Vasilyevich invited me to continue his work - to study the lakes of the Caucasus and lead expeditions under the auspices of the Russian Geographical Society. Without thinking twice, I agreed. The fact is that I instilled in myself a love for mountain lakes and the Caucasus mountains from books and this wonderful person. Behind last years our creative union has grown and strengthened, and this year we plan to release a monograph on the lakes of the Teberda Nature Reserve and adjacent territories.

2. How many years have you been with the Russian Geographical Society?

It turns out... for more than 5 years!

3. Expeditions to the Teberda Nature Reserve - at whose expense?

Yes, at your own expense. I tried to attract sponsors, but to no avail.

4. How do you recruit a group? Who are the participants?

The main composition of the expedition group was formed in 2005-2006. We simply met some of the participants in the mountains along the route. Before this, the group members had experience of mountain trekking, climbing in the Western Caucasus, as well as water trips in the Urals. From 2005 to 2007, we conducted several joint hikes in the upper reaches of the river. Malaya Laby, r. Urustein, b. Big Zelenchuk.
2008 is associated with the beginning of the group’s scientific expedition activities. From 2008 to 2010, three official expeditions were carried out into the absolute reserve zone of the Caucasian Biosphere Reserve, approved by the leadership of the Caucasian Biosphere Reserve and the Orenburg Agrarian University.
In 2011, the expedition “Abishara-Ahuba Ridge – Lake Province” took place.
Since 2012, the group has annually conducted expeditionary surveys of lakes in the Teberda Biosphere Reserve and adjacent areas under the auspices of the Russian Geographical Society. The group is open and is always ready to accept new members into its ranks.

Main composition of the group:

Belousov Alexander Vladimirovich, leader and organizer of expeditions, full member of the Expedition Center of the Krasnodar regional branch of the All-Russian public organization "Russian geographical society» - KRO RGS, expeditionary experience – 25 years.
Simonenkova Victoria Anatolevna, candidate of agricultural sciences, associate professor, head of the department of forestry, landscaping and forest protection, Orenburg State Agrarian University, full member of the Russian Geographical Society, - collection of material, field trip experience - 20 years.
Simonenkov Vladislav Sergeevich, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Orenburg State University, full member of the Russian Geographical Society – collection of material, video filming, photo shoot, field trip experience – 20 years.
Gavrilenko Sergey Viktorovich– navigation (Krasnodar), expeditionary experience – 12 years.
Safonenkov Vasily Sergeevich– collection of material (Krasnodar), field trip experience – 7 years.
Afanasov Maxim Ivanovich– photo shoot (Krasnodar), field trip experience – 5 years.

5. What is the most difficult thing about expeditions?

The most difficult thing (for me personally) is preparing for the expedition: thinking through everything, taking everything you need, not forgetting anything.

Expeditions also have difficulties, such as lack of drinking water. And this happens - for example, the southern slopes of Semenov-Bashi (July 2015), we had to look for small snowfields and literally collect water drop by drop.

6. Why did you decide to be nominated for the Prize?

To attract the attention of the Russian public to our region and its wonderful mountains and lakes, which are no worse than the Alps, and in some respects even better. As a matter of fact, the Swiss themselves spoke about this back in 1904, having made several first ascents in the upper reaches of the river. Teberda.

7. Alexander Vladimirovich, and... finally, a not entirely modest question... I’ll understand if you don’t answer. What is a prize?
Statuette+diploma+public recognition+.........?
Perhaps a certain amount for research or a prize for publications, etc. and so on.? Or just
statuette + diploma + public recognition?

Liliya Pavlovna, there are no monetary rewards for the prize. But I think that in our rather difficult times, a reward would not hurt those people whose project also has a social and scientific component. So, for example, it’s time for us to update some group equipment, not to mention the equipment; in addition, hydrochemical studies of lake water samples require large financial costs...
Therefore, what remains is attracting public attention to the lakes of the Caucasus, and then everything else!

Aleksandr Vladimirovich, thanks a lot Thank you for the interview and such sincere answers! Let everything work out, continue to work out, and continue to succeed!
I believe that the Teberda Nature Reserve and its researchers have become a little closer to everyone who read this post! For example, I can’t imagine what it’s like to melt snow to drink water... Eh, I won’t make a real traveler!)))))))

I invite all regular readers and guests of the blog to show their geopatriotism! It's easy - go to award website, select your region, learn about the projects submitted for the award, and give your favorite project your unique voice! By the way, do this possible every day! It depends... how much geopatriotism “jumps” into you))))))))

And I invite the residents of our region vote for the project of Alexander Vladimirovich Belousov"The current state of the lakes of the Teberda Nature Reserve and adjacent territories."

Let's be real geopatriots!
Let's support the participants of the National Crystal Compass Award!

P.S. Do you consider yourself a geopatriot?

On November 2, 2017, a meeting took place in the popular science lecture hall of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society with the head of the Branch’s Expedition Center, Alexander Belousov.

The event was attended by members of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society, students and teachers of universities, colleges and secondary schools cities.

The lecturer prepared for all guests of the event interesting presentation"History of Teberda lakes." Alexander Vladimirovich told informative information about the lakes of the Teberda State Natural Biosphere Reserve, the history of their formation, directly related to global change climate and degradation of modern glaciation, about the history of their research and about new interesting discoveries related to reservoirs, their scientific development, and the use of lakes for recreational purposes.

Of particular interest to those present were the lakes accessible to tourists, such as Nizhneye Badukskie, Lake Tumanlykel, Turye and Karakel. These lakes can be seen by visiting the popular ecological routes of the reserve. The presentation was accompanied by a display of the author’s photo and video material collected during various expeditions conducted within the framework of the project “Western Caucasus - a mountainous country of a thousand lakes.”

Belousov Alexander Vladimirovich - head of the Expedition Center of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society, traveler, researcher, photographer wildlife, author and director of the project “Western Caucasus - a mountainous country of a thousand lakes”, a project that won the national award “Crystal Compass 2017” in the category “Best Regional Project”.

All guests of the event had the opportunity to ask their questions to an experienced researcher and traveler. Young geographers were interested in the prospects for research into the still unexplored lakes of the Western Caucasus, as well as the skills and tools necessary to conduct such expeditions. The guests also asked about the dangers that may await travelers in the mountains.

At the final part of the event, Alexander Vladimirovich Belousov, together with the deputy chairman of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society, Yuri Vasilyevich Efremov, presented the author’s book “Lakes of the Teberdinsky Reserve and Adjacent Territories. Environmental and recreational aspects" to the famous blogger, geography teacher of gymnasium No. 18 in Krasnodar Liliya Kazantseva, who, together with the students of the gymnasium, actively supported the project "Western Caucasus - a mountainous country of a thousand lakes" during the fifth national award "Crystal Compass".
