• Business card layout
  • Thick paper
  • a printer
  • Metal ruler
  • Stationery knife
  • Transparent adhesive film

DIY business card creation can be divided into the following stages:

  1. Preparing a business card layout
  2. Placing a business card layout on a sheet of paper
  3. Printout
  4. Lamination (if necessary)
  5. Cutting business cards

Preparing a business card layout

At this stage of making a business card, we choose what our future business card will be like. Her style, color, information. If at this stage you blame the fool, it may turn out that all further actions will be a waste of time and energy. In general, the topic of creating a business card design is too extensive and varied to fit in this article.

Options for creating a business card layout:

  1. Creation of a layout from scratch in graphic editors. For example Photoshop, CorelDraw, Paint and others.
  2. Editing ready-made templates in the same Photoshop and CorelDraw.
  3. With the help of special programs.
  4. Online business card designers.

Each of these options has advantages and disadvantages. But as already said, these are too voluminous topics to fit into this article. Let's say you have chosen a ready-made template on the site, edited it to fit your needs and saved it in JPG format.

Placing the edited business card template on a piece of paper

How many copies can be printed at a time depends on how you place the business card on the sheet. The most optimal will be 10 pieces for portrait orientation of the sheet and 12 for landscape orientation. I always go for the 12 business cards per sheet of paper option. I usually use Microsoft Word or CorelDraw to place my business cards.

Placing a business card on a sheet using Microsoft Word

  1. Create a new file and choose landscape orientation.

  2. We change the size of the fields. The upper and lower ones are made at 0.45 cm. The right and left ones are at 1.5 cm.

  3. Create a table with 3 columns and 4 rows.

  4. Select the entire table and on the Layout tab, click the properties button. The "Table Properties" window has appeared.

  5. On the Table tab, click the Options button. In the window that appears, set all table fields to 0 and uncheck the boxes, if any.

  6. On the Line tab, set the height value to 5 cm and the mode exactly. On the Column and Cell tabs, make the width exactly 9 cm.
  7. Now we insert a ready-made business card template into the table cell. This is easy to do. It is enough to copy the layout using the "Ctr + C" keys and paste it into the required cell using the "Ctr + V" key combination
  8. Left-click on the Format tab and go to the picture resizing menu. In the Layout window, on the Size tab, uncheck the proportions preservation checkboxes and set the dimensions: height-5cm, width-9cm.

  9. Copy the edited image to the rest of the table cells.

That's all. Now the file with correctly placed business cards can be printed. For those who do not understand how to place a business card layout on a sheet using the Microsoft Word program or just want to save time, below is a link to a ready-made file. Download markup for 12 business cards in Word It remains only to place an image in it, i.e. follow points 7, 8 and 9.

Placing a business card on a sheet using CorelDraw

The version with CorelDraw is even easier and faster than with the office, so I like it better. So:

  1. Create a new A4 horizontal document.
  2. Copy the ready-made template into the document (Ctr + C, Ctr + V) and set the image dimensions to 90 mm and 50 mm.

  3. Place the business card template as in the image above.
  4. Select our business card and press the Alt + F7 key combination. On the right side (if you have not changed the position of the menu), the Transform menu appears. With its help, we first make 2 copies to the right. Select the resulting 3 business cards and make 3 more copies down.

  5. If necessary, select all 12 business cards on the sheet and align them so that the top margin is approximately equal to the bottom margin and the left to the right margin.

That's all, you can print. I advise you to try both methods and decide which one is more convenient. The site also has a video course on creating business cards in CorelDraw.

Printing a business card on a printer

Now let's move on to printing business cards. Any printer for printing business cards, even inkjet or laser, is suitable. At home I perfectly print business cards on the CANON Pixma MG5340 inkjet printer. Once I ran out of paint, and I needed business cards, and I had to contact advertising agency... And what my surprise was when they started to print my business cards on exactly the same printer! But if any business card printer is suitable, then with paper this is no longer the case. Plain office paper will not work. That's why she's a business card, which differs from a piece of newspaper with a number written on it. I advise you to use paper with a weight of 200 g / m2 for business cards... Once I had to print a business card on paper with a density of 160 g / m2, but they turned out to be painfully “liquid”.

Business card lamination at home

Before you start cutting business cards, you can laminate them. You don't have to go to office supply stores or other places that have a laminating machine and laminate for money. Everything can be done at home. In order to laminate a business card yourself at home, you need a transparent film with an adhesive base. This can be clear Oracal or textbook film (available from office supply stores). If you will buy a film for pasting textbooks, be careful, it comes in two types: with an adhesive layer and thermo (glued with an iron). We need the one with an adhesive layer... When the film is already available, you need to cut it to fit the A4 sheet size and glue it carefully. The first time it may not work out perfectly, but after several attempts you will understand what to do and how to do it. Note that lamination of business cards is not at all an obligatory procedure and it is quite possible to do without it, especially if paper with good density is taken.

Cutting business cards

So we got to the final stage of making business cards at home - cutting. To cut your printed business cards, it would be great to use special paper cutters. Here is a link to make it clear what I mean - paper cutters ... Special cutters will not only save a lot of time, because cutting, in my opinion, is the most tedious in making business cards, but cutting business cards with their help is much safer. As you can see, the prices for these cutters are a bit biting. Therefore, we will use a metal ruler and a stationery knife. In addition to a ruler and a knife, I recommend putting glass, plexiglass or something else on the table where the cutting will take place so as not to damage the surface of the table (I cut business cards on the metal case cover from the old system unit computer). The ruler needs a metal, preferably 30-40 cm (the small one will have to be rearranged, and the large one may be inconvenient). If you use a ruler made of plastic or wood, the stationery knife will leave serifs on it, which will make the business card uneven. Another little life hack about the line. To prevent the ruler from slipping and sliding on it reverse side you can glue fine sandpaper. Optional along the entire length, 3-4 small pieces are sufficient. ATTENTION! Be very careful when cutting with a clerical knife! Press down on the ruler so that the knife does not hit your fingers when you cut. This concludes my instructions on how to make a business card myself. If someone does not understand something, ask.

Including not entirely trivial, as for a regular text editor. In Word, you can not only work with documents, write scientific papers, articles or reports, but also, for example, create yourself business card... Although in our time they are no longer used as often as before, they are still convenient and have not completely outlived their usefulness. There are more advanced graphic editors that allow you to draw a card of much better quality, but such programs are not cheap, and to work in them you need to have special knowledge. In Word, you can make a pretty decent business card in a few minutes. In this article, we'll take a closer look at how to make a business card in Word. Let's figure it out. Go!

Many tasks can be done in a text editor

You need to start by setting the page parameters. To do this, go to the Layout tab and set the margins to 1 cm or slightly less. Next, you need to create a table. Open the "Insert" tab and create a 2x5 table, that is, 2 columns and 5 lines. The next step is to set the height and width parameters for the card. Values of 9 cm in width and 5 cm in height are taken as the standard. You can neglect this by making your business card the size you want. Just keep in mind that all business card holders and special compartments in other accessories are designed for exactly this format. Let's set desired values... Select the table and open its properties. Going to the "Line" tab, check the "Height" box with the checkbox and enter the height value (in our case, it is 5 cm). Then, in the "Column" tab, check the "Width" checkbox and enter the appropriate number (for example, 9 cm). Do not forget to confirm the entered parameters.

After that, all in the same table properties window, click on the "Parameters" button. There you need to set the margins of all cells by default to 0 cm. Next, remove unnecessary dividing lines, leaving only those along which you will cut business cards. You can make the borders light so that they are visible when you cut out the cards, but will be much less noticeable on an already made business card. To do this, select Borders and Fill under Format and select All for Type. Set any color, light tones. Set the width to a quarter centimeter.

Now that the base is done, let's move on to the text. Enter the full name, company name, position and contacts that you want to indicate. The text should be readable, so do not use fancy fonts that can make it difficult to recognize letters. Also, remember to indent so that all information is not located right next to the borders.

After you have entered the text in the cell, you need to fill in all the rest. This task is solved by simple copying. To speed up the process, three times click on the cell with the text, placing the cursor on the last line, and hold down Ctrl while holding down the key, you can drag the selected text into the cell, then select two, four, six, and so on. This approach will greatly speed up the process if you are going to print a large number of cards. Note that thick paper should be used for printing. It should be understood that it will not work to create a really beautiful and serious business card in Word, and in this case it is better to contact the printing house.

MS Word makes it possible not only to execute and execute office documents.

Now, as promised, let's look at how to insert “ my”Picture as the background of the business card.

The program has the ability to insert a picture from your own directory or from a file. We'll look at both options. If you create many different business cards, it is easier to use a picture from the program catalog. Let's copy our own picture file to the program's pictures directory so as not to constantly search for where this file is located.

To do this, we are looking for a picture on the computer, you can first find it on the Internet, and copy it by right-clicking on it and selecting “ Copy»

Next, insert this file into the folder Pictures programs " Master of business cards". Usually this folder is located at this path: C: \ Program Files \ MasterVizitok \ Data \ Images \ Pictures... Go to this folder and right-click on an empty space, select “ Insert»

Now our picture is in the program directory. Now in the program “ Master of business cards", In chapter " Project design", In the" Background"Choose" Choose a picture»

In the new window, select “ Other images", Look for our copied picture, select it and click" OK»

We see how the background of our business card has changed

You can customize this background by clicking on the " Adjusting brightness and contrast»

Moving the brightness and contrast sliders left-right, we achieve the optimal background color and press “ Apply»

Now let's insert a picture not from the program catalog, but directly into our business card template. Let's insert, for example, our photo into a business card.

Note: In order for the picture to "blend" with the background of our business card, it is necessary that the inserted pictures have transparent background and were in the format.PNG image

To do this, in the main window of the program, press the button " Add picture"And choose" Picture from file»

Select the image file, namely the file of our photo and click " Open»

The photo has been inserted into the layout of our business card. We move it to the place we need.

Now we can edit this picture a little, namely crop, make it black and white, flip it horizontally / vertically, adjust its transparency. In my case, I flipped it horizontally and made it a little more transparent ...

If you wish, you can make the final "touch" to our business card - we will make it in a frame. To do this, in the section " Project design", In the" Background"Put a tick in the line" Use frame". Choose the frame color from the standard set or use the eyedropper and copy any color from the one available on your screen

As a result, I got such a business card. I removed my photo from the business card, it doesn't look very good 🙂. Not a masterpiece, of course, but I like it. You might do better ...

I got an idea here! Let's post the templates of the business cards you have created on the blog or in my social group. networks! And the author better work will receive from me a small prize in the amount of 300r... How do you like the idea? Write below in the comments what do you think about this and whether you want to participate?
