Today, breeding nutria at home as a business is quite popular. At the same time, different types of their maintenance are practiced. Some people use fences and summer enclosures for this purpose, while others prefer keeping them in cages. We’ll talk now about which method is better and how to organize such activities correctly.

Growing nutria on the territory adjacent to household farms is not only profitable, but also exciting. There is no age limit for this activity. The result that this business can bring is the receipt of valuable fur, dietary meat and nutritious fat. The meat of these animals can be used to cook delicious dishes, and if you are not a fan of such an unconventional option, then you can definitely sell the skins successfully.

If we consider the question of whether it is profitable to work at home from an economic point of view, then the answer is definitely positive. You will be able to sell young animals, meat, and sell the skins of slaughtered animals even in unprocessed form to wholesale buyers. And if you manage to select at least 10 skins of the same color, then your profit can be increased. Moreover, the animals do not consume much food.

Where to start and how to run a nutria business?

The first step is to determine for yourself the purpose for which a business such as breeding nutria at home will be carried out. For the sake of their dietary meat, expensive fur, or simply as pets? If the goal is to sell fur, then animals should be selected with the same color. You should start breeding nutria by doing the following:

  • select a plot of land to locate the farm;
  • build a building for raising animals or improve an existing one;
  • make cells;
  • improve the territory, which means making a pond and pens in which animals can walk.

Selecting and purchasing animals

It is recommended to start breeding nutria at home by purchasing young animals whose age does not exceed 2-3 months. Their weight at this age usually ranges from 1.3 kg to 2.3 kg. At this stage, you should decide which nutria you want to breed. It is important to remember that colored skins are sold at a relatively high price, but colored breeds have a lower birth rate. So, if a female nutria of a standard breed is capable of bringing up to 15 puppies throughout the year, then a white Italian one can give birth to no more than eight.

It is better to purchase animals from special nurseries. If you buy from private breeders, then it is advisable to visit the farm and see the conditions and condition of the animals. We do not recommend buying nutria on the market, since the necessary conditions are rarely met there. Having chosen the right place to buy, you need to decide on the type of animal. Based on color, it is customary to distinguish between 9 mutational and 7 combined types of nutria, the most common of which are:

Cages and houses

The premises in which nutria will be kept must meet the following requirements:

  • it is desirable that the structure be wooden;
  • availability of good ventilation;
  • lack of humidity in the interior.

Animal cages can be purchased ready-made, but you can also make them yourself. The optimal cage size is 100x60x50 cm. Closer cages can cause a decrease in the growth of young animals and their low survival rate. There should be a distance of at least 70 cm from the floor to the bottom of the cages. A special bedding is laid out on the floor of the room, and the walls are covered with a metal mesh.

Diagram of nutria cell equipment

It is important to consider that cages, like enclosures, should be located in quiet places, protected from winds and cold. The peculiarity of these animals is their sensitivity to the presence of strong noises. With their constant exposure, the animals’ birth rate decreases, they begin to lose weight, and mortality may even begin among them.

It should be remembered that during the breeding season, nutria become aggressive and irritable. The nutria's bite is so powerful that it can easily bite a person's finger. Therefore, during this period it is better not to disturb them in vain and try to touch them as little as possible.

Nutria breeding technology

The most important stage, which determines how successful breeding at home will be, is constant monitoring of nutria. It is important not to miss the period that will be most favorable for mating. Females begin to mate at 6-8 months and weigh at least 3.5 kg. Males are selected when they are 7-10 months old and whose biological mass exceeds 4.5 kg.

Mating can be done in three different ways:

  • replanting;
  • joint;
  • combined.

For young females and running a business, the shoal method is the most optimal. With it, schools are sorted, which include two- or three-month-old young females. Their number can vary from 4 to 15 heads. At the same time, they try to select individuals with similar coloring. After four months, one active and strong male, larger in size than each of the females, joins such a school.

The gentleman should not be directly related to the females. A male needs to live with his “girlfriends” for at least 2-3 months. Throughout this period, it is necessary to periodically palpate females to detect pregnancy. If formations similar to soft beads with a diameter of about 2 cm are palpated, this means that the female’s pregnancy is 50 days. Such females should immediately be placed in separate cages.

Norms of area required for one individual

For the normal life of nutria, each nutria must be equipped with at least 300 sq. cm. If there is a need to maintain a large school, which will consist of 15-25 individuals, then at least 1-2 square meters should be allocated for each. m. If the area is limited for some reason, then the school should not contain more than 4-6 individuals. Throughout the warm season, nutrias mandatory there must be access to bodies of water to prevent them from getting heat strokes. Even a small container of water, such as an old bathtub, will do.

What to feed?

Nutria belongs to the class of herbivores, and therefore their diet is based on plants. In this case, preference is given to aquatic vegetation that grows on the banks of rivers, streams and standing reservoirs. Their diet includes all parts of plants, including stems, roots and leaves, which can significantly reduce the cost of maintaining them. In addition, the animals’ diet can be diversified with feed grains and a wide variety of vegetables. For food adult up to 1.5 kg of plant food is required.

Business plan

Nutria farming - economical profitable business. If the correct approach to the matter is taken, based on a preliminary calculation, then it becomes unconditionally profitable. At the calculation stage, the costs of improving the farm, creating a supply of the necessary feed in the required quantity and purchasing the animals themselves must be taken into account.

Before starting a breeding project, you should calculate the profitability and self-sufficiency indicators of this business. It is also necessary to carry out an economic analysis of the situation existing in the region chosen to start this business. It is important to take into account the prospects for the emergence of a fight against competitors and the availability of a sales market finished products. The following approximate calculations will help you navigate your field of activity:

  • to purchase a male and female nutria you will need about 3,200 rubles;
  • the female is capable of giving birth to 10-15 puppies every four months;
  • the weight of one adult individual reaches 1.5-2 kg of meat, which can be sold for 800 rubles;
  • for one skin you can earn from 480 rubles to 640 rubles;

A simple calculation allows us to say that the costs will pay off in just 6 months.

Video “Keeping Nutria at Home”

After watching this video, you will get answers to most of the questions that novice nutria breeders have. The information will be useful to everyone starting their own business.

Many people mistakenly believe that breeding nutria, the prices for fur coats from which are constantly rising, is necessary solely to obtain their high-quality fur. But it is not so. The value of nutria, in addition to the skin, also lies in the meat of this animal - tender and tasty, but most importantly - dietary.

That is why today breeding nutria as a business and at home is becoming increasingly popular. The fertility of this small animal makes it possible to provide meat not only for our own farms, but also to sell the surplus.

Nutriculture

It must be said that breeding nutria at home as a profitable business in our country appeared relatively recently. Moreover, many still have no idea how valuable this wonderful fur-bearing animal is. However, the army of nutria nutritionists is gradually increasing. Some owners who have nutria breeding farms have managed to achieve very high quality skins with smooth, silky pile and a wide variety of colors.

Some time ago, the purchase price for them was increased at the state level. That is why breeding nutria as a business and at home has become a very profitable business. After all, meat and fur have been in great demand for some time now. In addition, those who begin breeding these animals will be exempt from taxes on the amount they receive for selling the skins. True, there is one condition: they will need to be sold specifically to existing procurement organizations. Nutria meat sold on the market is also exempt.

Care and breeding

This furry animal came to us from a hot South America. He lives near water, in which he periodically washes his skin. Therefore, beginners who are just starting to breed nutria at home are always interested in whether a pool or other body of water is required for them. Of course, experts say that this animal can do without daily bathing, but then you won’t have to dream about the high quality of its skin. After all, he will not have the opportunity to properly care for her.

And the health of the animals living near the pool is much stronger than that of the “land” nutria. Caring for and breeding this fur-bearing fauna is not a particularly difficult task. But the main thing is that it is very profitable and profitable. After all, the wearability of the skin is as close as possible to mink or fox; fur coats, hats and collars are made from fur. And meat is not inferior even to rabbit meat in its nutritional value and dietary value.

Feed

Nutria loves carrots, cabbage, apples, etc. She eats only plant foods. Despite the fact that this animal is a rodent and has very large teeth, there is no need to be afraid of it. He gets used to people very quickly; experts are sure that he even responds to his nickname. As soon as you call him, the animal immediately runs up and takes food from your hands.

Breeding nutria at home has its own characteristics. If the livestock is small, then the feeders need to be arranged so that the owner is comfortable. The main thing is not to forget that this is a very strong animal that can carry equipment wherever it pleases.

That's why the best option Feeders are narrow troughs that need to be secured to the wall with latches.

Organizational matters

The nutria breeding business will be profitable if you calculate in advance all the expected costs for their maintenance, including renting a farm and landscaping enclosures. Caring for these animals is incredibly easy, and food for these herbivores is readily available. Yes, and you will have to hire a minimum number of workers to breed nutria.

Premises and equipment

The business plan involves the use of special houses for these animals, with openings through which they can easily exit to walk. It is best to place them in special nutria breeding farms, which are divided into two zones: warm and cold. The walking area must be covered with a wall one meter high. Additionally, it is necessary to equip a swimming pool, the water in which will need to be changed daily, since only in this case the fur of the nutria will be outwardly luxurious and attractive.

Breeding nutria in enclosures with wooden or tin partitions has proven itself to be quite good. From the inside, you need to lay a layer of hay or sawdust on the floor. The size of enclosures or houses should be 1.5 x 1.5 meters. In this case, the wooden parts must be covered with iron or fine mesh, otherwise these animals will gnaw them.

In addition, with the onset of cold weather, the room will need to be maintained at a normal temperature for these animals - about eighteen degrees. Nutria are not rabbits; their bare tails and soles of their feet get frostbitten very quickly.

Any container in which animals can splash around is suitable as a pool. It can be dug into the ground. You just need to think in advance about how the water will be changed.

Growing Nutria

It is best to build a farm near a pond where reeds or water lilies grow. In this case, the businessman will be able to significantly save on feed in the summer, spring and autumn periods. It will be quite enough for nutria to collect this vegetation. Although the animals feed on the stems, they also eat the rhizomes and leaves, so there will be no waste left. One individual weighs on average about five kilograms, and per day it consumes food equal to almost a third of its weight.

Staff

Several workers will be required to care for the nutria. They will have to constantly be on the farm, and therefore conditions for normal living will need to be created for them. The staff must include a professional veterinarian, whose duties will include a careful examination of the health status of nutria and the prevention of various diseases.

Nutria as a business

This source delicious meat and valuable, high-quality fur can become a good source of income, if, of course, breeding is carried out correctly. Nutria, the business plan for growing which requires a fairly accurate calculation of maintenance costs, must be placed in enclosures. Caring for these small animals is simple, and inexpensive food is enough to raise them.

And their high fertility and resistance to disease make nutria breeding very profitable.

Business plan

Initially, it is better to purchase not many, but only a few pairs of nutria. Each female brings about twelve babies every 2 months, in turn, they can be slaughtered within six months.

The list of initial expenses for a month in advance based on ten pairs is as follows:

  • farm rental - 30,000 rubles;
  • purchase of houses for nutria and indoors - 70,000 rubles;
  • staff salary - 50,000 rubles;
  • purchase of feed - 20,000 rubles.

This business, if run correctly, will pay off in about six months of operation. In the process, more offspring will be constantly added, which means that it will be necessary to actively sell fresh meat and fur.

At high turnover, profits can reach up to three hundred thousand rubles per month. But the main thing is to know where to buy nutria for breeding so that the livestock is healthy.

Advantages

What are they? Breeding nutria at home has several positive aspects. The organization and arrangement of their homes or territory can be accomplished in a short period of time. Moreover, nutria feeds on grain and ordinary grass, which not only can be easily obtained, but can also be prepared for future use to save money. These small fur-bearing animals do not cause much trouble for breeders, since they rarely get sick.

Comparing the breeding of nutria and rabbits, you can immediately feel the difference: the latter get sick very often, as a result, most of the livestock die, which means a loss of not only money, but also time.

Another advantageous feature of nutria is their rapid growth. These rodents reach the size required for slaughter in a very short time.

Peculiarities

The nutria population should not be crowded on the farm, so for each individual there should be at least one square meter. As a rule, no more than four, or maximum five, animals should be placed in each cage. In addition, enclosures must be clean and thoroughly cleaned at least twice a day.

For animals, it is necessary to prepare in advance bran, grain, cake, hay, and root vegetables. Nutria should be fed twice a day, and in summer it should be given a maximum of vitamins, i.e. grass or greens.

You need to know this

It is better to keep young animals, as well as livestock prepared for mating, in special pens - fences, inside of which there should be not only a pool, but also a shelter, as well as a concreted feeding area.

Characteristics of breeding

These animals should not be handled roughly - they may stop gaining weight or breeding. The cage must be lined with straw or at least sawdust.

You can’t keep nutria in a draft, as this leads to colds. And in hot weather, if they are kept in the open sun, the animals may suffer from sunstroke.

Profitability

The cost of each living adult individual on average reaches fifty dollars. e. They are usually bought by novice entrepreneurs who decide to breed at home. The cost of one kilogram of nutria meat ranges from five to eight dollars. That is, the yield in a cut carcass is up to four to six kilograms.

The price of one skin (depending on its size, color and quality of fur) reaches twenty dollars. Those made using factory technology are most valued. This skin is thinner and more elastic, stretches well, so it sells at a good price, and there is a constant demand for it.

Breeding nutria is a fascinating and profitable activity. Animals are unpretentious in food, easily tamed and grow quickly.

The weight of an adult animal is 4.5-8 kilograms

It is believed that nutria is a swamp beaver. A fairly large waterfowl with thick fur and a long, hairless tail. All external organs of the animal are adapted to life in water - the ears are covered with thick fur, the structure of the nose and lips allow the nutria to hold its breath for a long time and feed under water. A distinctive external feature of the animal is its large, bright orange incisors. Moreover, the color of the teeth can be used to judge the state of health of the animal - the lighter and paler the tone of the teeth, the less healthy the nutria.

The weight of an adult animal is 4.5-8 kilograms, but through genetic selection, the weight of nutria can reach up to 12 kg. IN natural conditions Nutria are nocturnal. In cage conditions, animals are active during the day. Despite their southern origin, animals prefer average temperature air up to +20 degrees. Nutria can tolerate heat with the presence of water; otherwise, nutria may die from heatstroke.

Video about tips on breeding nutria

First, the farmer needs to decide for what purpose he is going to breed nutria: for meat, fur, or as a pet (nutria are well tamed, get used to humans, and respond to a nickname). When purchasing animals for breeding, you should choose nutria of the same skin color. In the future, when selling skins, it is more profitable to sell them if there are more than 10. The molting of animals ends at the end of autumn. Nutria winter fur is considered the most valuable.

Nutria - care and breeding should be organized taking into account summer and winter maintenance. Cells must be protected from the sun in summer and from frost in winter. During the cold season, nutrias' tails and paws freeze. Cages insulated with hay and located in enclosed spaces are sufficiently protected housing for wintering nutria.

Since nutria are aquatic animals, the presence of water in their life is important. It is not necessary to arrange large swimming pools with running water. In order for the animal's skin to be in good condition, it will be enough to set a container of water to 100-200 liters.

Since nutria are aquatic animals, the presence of water in their life is important

Nutria are different in character, mostly quite good-natured animals. They get used to people well, distinguish the intonation with which people speak. There is an opinion that nutria are aggressive and bite. In fact, an animal can bite only in case of self-defense. Nutria's hearing is very well developed, so they are easily frightened by sharp and loud sounds.

Nutria most often show aggressiveness towards each other when they are improperly kept and insufficiently fed. Animals should not be combined from different families(cells in which they grew together). Nutria should be free in their cages - lack of space can also cause aggression. You need to pick up a nutria by the tail - the animals fiercely protect its back and any touch to the back is regarded as an attack.

Nutria are very clean animals, they practically do not have the specific smell characteristic of other rodents, and they take care of their fur. Nutria are rodents, this must be taken into account when equipping cages. Animals can easily destroy wooden structures.

Nutria are very clean animals; they have practically no specific odor.

Nutria are herbivorous rodents, so the diet should consist of grass, vegetables, and branches. According to experts, animals eat wet food, the so-called mash, better. Grain concentrates, grass, and vegetables are mixed into one mass. Compound feed, like potatoes, needs to be steamed or boiled. In the mash, the ratio of concentrates and succulent feed should be 1:4.

Rodents need to chew something, so several times a week nutrias need to be given tree branches, preferably with young shoots. Nutria also love algae; they should be added to the animals’ daily diet. Grass should also be included in the animals’ daily menu in the summer months. It is important that the animal does not eat poisonous plants, such as celandine or hemlock. Before feeding, the grass must be moistened generously.

Rodents need to chew something, so nutrias need to be given tree branches several times a week.

You need to feed nutria twice a day at the same time. You should add vitamins to your food - meat and bone meal, a little table salt. Before giving vegetables to the animal, you need to wash them from dirt and clean them from rot.

It is important to ensure that the cages are always clean. drinking water. In winter, water can be replaced with snow. As experienced farmers note, nutria are unpretentious in food, so there are no problems with feeding animals.

How to breed nutria - there is a lot of information about this in the specialized literature. Puberty in young nutria occurs at 4-5 months, but it is advisable to occur at the age of no earlier than 6-7 months. The female carries the cubs for about 4.5 months. In nutria, pregnancy proceeds calmly, but at this time the female is very vulnerable. She becomes shy, so the animal must be separated from other relatives, and the pregnant female must be cared for carefully. If frightened, the female may have a miscarriage.

Puberty in young nutria occurs at 4-5 months

A swimming pool should be arranged for a pregnant female so she can move more. A few days before giving birth, nutria stops eating. During childbirth, it is better not to approach the nutria - she will lick the babies herself. Small animals are born sighted, with teeth, and can walk and swim. And yet, in the first days, the cubs need to be monitored. If the animals are inactive and lethargic, it means they don’t have enough mother’s milk. The cubs also need water - otherwise they may get sick.

Nutria milk is very nutritious, so the cubs quickly gain weight. The female feeds the babies for two months. Already on the third day after birth, they begin to eat adult food. Cubs are born weighing up to 250 g; with proper care, after half a month their weight doubles. Over the course of a year, the animal increases in weight 20 times.

How to monitor the health of nutria

It is believed that nutria are resistant to diseases, but sometimes animals can get sick if they are not kept properly. Nutria can develop bronchitis from drafts. To avoid illness, it is necessary to winter time insulate the floor of the cage, eliminate drafts.

Video about breeding nutria

If there is not enough sunlight and water, animals can get ringworm. This disease spoils the fur - hair falls out, bald spots form on the skin. To eliminate the disease, you need to provide the nutria with water and sun - the disease will disappear on its own. Young animals can suffer from salmonellosis and E. coli - treatment is prescribed by a veterinarian, which usually boils down to the prescription of antibiotics. If the nutria diet is rich in vitamins, then their immunity copes with all ailments.

With proper care of animals such as nutria, breeding and maintaining them does not cause difficulties even for novice livestock breeders.

Nutria is called an aquatic beaver; this mammal belongs to the order of rodents. Near the person it appeared not long ago, but has already become popular. These mammals are bred at home not only for beauty and prestige, but also to simply survive in our difficult times.

Externally, nutria looks like big rat, she has a thick build. In the wild, this mammal can be found in the southern part of the South American continent. This place was not chosen in vain, all because the animal is very afraid of frost.

Nutria is large in size, and the weight of nutria reaches 12 kg. Her fur is thick and her tail is long and hairless. The teeth are long and orange.

Breeding nutria at home

Modern entrepreneurs view nutria cultivation as a business. The solution is not bad, besides, for growing it you will need either an open enclosure or a special cage. If you take the process seriously, it will turn out to be not only profitable, but also exciting.

Nutria are bred for their beautiful skins and nutritious meat - this is a profitable business. Fur maybe different colors, it is durable and dense. The meat tastes like rabbit, it contains many useful microelements.

Let's take a closer look at how to breed nutria:

  1. No need to finish the special educational institution to breed nutria. All the necessary information can be found on the Internet, as well as by talking with experts on this issue.
  2. Mammals are not picky about their diet; plant foods are the basis. If you buy grains, vegetables and grass, it will not be very expensive. And if these products grow in their own fields, then the business will be low-cost.
  3. The animals are little susceptible to disease, and raising them is a pleasure.
  4. Fertile animals will regularly produce new offspring, which will quickly grow, gain weight and develop.
  5. Nutria have valuable skin and tasty, nutritious meat. Animals grow very quickly and reach the required size for subsequent implementation and prosperity of the business.

The animal loves quiet, standing and shallow bodies of water, which is why it nicknamed the swamp beaver. But in addition to moisture, they also need warmth; they do not live in freezing reservoirs.

An adult male weighs from 10 to 12 kg, females are slightly smaller. They have excellent hearing; at night they see better than during the day, in the light. This species is very active, and its peak occurs at night.

Nutria farm - choosing a location

In order for the chosen business to generate income, you need to arrange everything correctly. You need to start by ensuring the conditions in which the nutria will be kept. When setting up a farm, you need to take into account the food supply and source clean water, which should be very close. Preference should be given to water from a well, since water from nearby reservoirs can be contaminated with various microorganisms. And they, in turn, can lead to disease or even an entire epidemic of animals.

Having a main source, you can independently arrange ditches for animals. Their width at the top should be 2.5 meters, at the bottom 0.5 meters, depth 0.7-0.8 meters. The ditches are concreted, and cages are installed along them. The length of the ditch will depend on the number of cells placed on its sides.

The farm area needs to be fenced off and trees planted to protect the animals from the scorching summer sun.

The place must be level, a slight slope is allowed. If the area is open, then you need to decide what winds prevail there, but experts recommend setting up a farm on the leeward side.

Along with the farm, you need to build a kitchen, since constantly cooking food for animals in the house is not very convenient. You also need a barn in which to store a supply of grain and vegetables, as well as the necessary equipment.

To reduce maintenance costs, farms are built without a swimming pool. Only in this case you need to monitor the animals very carefully so that they do not overeat. Overfeeding with subsequent obesity has a very bad effect on the offspring. Fat females are unable to bear offspring. A moderately well-fed female will have a small amount of fat around the withers, on the stomach and under the arms.

Summarizing the information from this chapter, it should be noted that the area for nutria must meet the following requirements:

  • mild climate;
  • the presence of a reservoir that would freeze in winter for a maximum of 2-3 weeks;
  • a warehouse in which grain, hay, and vegetables will be stored;
  • the presence of a forest or shelterbelt nearby, in which you can get hold of oak or hazel branches, which nutria are very fond of.

Nutria cage

It is built from concrete, the size of which is 2.5 × 1.5 × 0.8 meters. The fourth wall is made of metal mesh, the edges of which are embedded in the concrete side walls. Its lower part is lowered into the water, serving as a barrier for animals to bathe. A top part bends 30 cm inside the cage, which prevents nutria from making escapes from it.

The floor in the cage is concrete, has a slope of 30°, and serves as a walking area for nutria.

You can make the cells yourself, or you can buy ready-made ones. They can be stationary or portable, single-story or consisting of several tiers.

Basically, cages are made for 6-9 individuals, their size should be up to 2 square meters. It is necessary to equip an exit for walks in the enclosure in the fresh air. In order for the animal to move comfortably, it is necessary to provide the exit with straw bedding.

If the nutria have a cramped cage, there is no pond for swimming and a house in which they will hide in times of danger, then they will have to wait a very long time for offspring. In such conditions, high-quality skins will not be kept.

Conditions

In order for nutria to survive the winter painlessly, they need to be kept in a warm room, the temperature in which will not be lower than 18°.

Cages that are equipped according to all the rules and installed correctly help the animal to withstand the heat. If it is very hot outside and there is no pool, the nutria may suffer from heatstroke or die. Sad outcome It can also happen when the temperature drops below the permissible level. Having warm fur, nutria are very sensitive to cold, especially their paws.

So, caring for nutria includes only three main points:

  • cleanliness of cages and pool;
  • constant temperature;
  • regular balanced meals.

Feeding methods

The animals are not picky about food. If they lead an active lifestyle, then they cannot overeat, no matter how much you feed them. If you don't feed them well, this will affect the quality of skins and meat. The ideal option would be one close to wild habitat conditions:

  • fresh grass - they love clover and tops of root crops;
  • vegetation from swamps - favorite algae;
  • roots;
  • ground cereals;
  • tree branches;
  • balanced feed.

All vegetables given to nutria must be clean, and the feed must be diluted with water.

Animals can be given boiled potato peels, porridge, dry white or black bread, soups with water or broth.

Feeders and containers for fresh water can be purchased or made independently. The main thing is that they need to be securely fastened to the walls of the cage so that active animals cannot turn them over.

Peculiarities

Animals are aggressive only in a few cases:

  • with constant malnutrition;
  • females - during pregnancy;
  • when mating.

The rest of the time nutria are very kind. Don't forget that they may also not like something. For example, when you try to scratch their belly or stroke their back. They do not like noise and are frightened by loud sounds. If they experience constant discomfort, then fertility decline guaranteed, as is a possible manifestation of aggression.

If you need to move animals to another place, then you should remember to be careful. A bite from a nutria's teeth is very dangerous.

Nutria grow up to fifteen months. They live up to seven years. But on farms where nutria breeding as a business is well established, the animals do not live to this age. The fact is that their productivity decreases after three years of age, and breeding becomes impossible. They are kept for a month, their movements restricted, so that they gain weight, and then they are sold.

Nutria selection

If you decide to breed nutria, you can buy healthy individuals from breeders who maintain entire nutria farms. This is the only way to be sure of the health of the animals and future healthy offspring. Today the following breeds are popular:

  • golden;
  • black;
  • white Italian.

The ideal option would be to acquire more than half of the offspring of one of the species, and the rest from the category of ordinary nutria. Thanks to this crossing, it is possible to increase the offspring to 5-6 cubs.

To breed nutria at home, it is advisable to buy young individuals from different places. Animals must be at least three months old, then they are considered fully adapted to environment, and their weight can range from 1 to 2.3 kg.

Experienced entrepreneurs advise finding out the smallest details of the condition and origin of the livestock.

Reproduction of animals

Individuals that are 7 months old are suitable for mating. To get strong and healthy offspring, you need to carefully choose your parents. They should not weigh less than 5 kg, be active and mobile.

As soon as the female becomes sexually estrous, the mating process must begin. Males are always ready for mating.

There are two types of reproduction:

  1. Family breeding is when several females are placed in a male’s cage at the same time. The main condition for such reproduction is peaceful relations between females. If in this case something went wrong, then they resort to the second type.
  2. Manual is when there is one female and one male in the cage. The process continues until fertilization occurs.

The animals' pregnancy lasts 132 days; there are cases when labor begins 9 days earlier, or 9 days later. Nutria offspring range from 5 to 8 pieces, in rare cases more. They can mate several times a year and give birth twice.

If the cubs are born very weak, then you definitely need to adjust their diet. The diet should include cottage cheese and meat, milk and fishmeal. Animals are not very willing to eat any food in its pure form, so you need to combine it with crushed grains. The female feeds her cubs for two months, her milk is very nutritious and has a fat content of 28%.

Benefits and Benefits

Breeding nutria cannot be called popular, but it is a very profitable business. There is always a demand for meat and fur. There are no specific prices, it all depends on the quality. Young individuals can be sold to private individuals or farms. If you establish a permanent sales channel, then can be built good business on nutria.

It makes no difference where the animals will be kept: in an enclosure or in cages.

If a cage is being made, then for one individual you need a space one meter long, 60 cm wide, and 50 cm high. To make the cage, you can use wood, you just need to cover it on the walls and floor with mesh.

In the cage, you need to lay out dry grass on the floor and change it regularly.

It must be remembered that domestic animals, like wild animals, love water and regular bathing. They even wash their food in water before eating.

In winter, the animals do not bathe, which will be very economical for the farm. In summer, to avoid the spread of various infections, you need to change the water in the reservoir every two days.

When creating a nutria farm, you need to consider love of animals for water and warmth. It is necessary to create special places for swimming, but do not forget that nutria gnaw on everything, and from the first days of their life. Therefore, it is necessary to exclude wood and plastic from the material, since it will not last long.

We studied a lot of information regarding breeding and growing nutria at home. We decided to try it. We are preparing an enclosure and a swimming pool. We are looking for breeders.
