The path to a profession is usually long and difficult. If you make a mistake at the very beginning of this path and choose the wrong specialty, it will be very difficult to work in the future. And if education was paid, the situation is even sadder. However, you can always change it. All you need is desire, patience and work.

To master many types of activities, neither higher nor secondary specialized education is required. It may be enough to complete special courses. But it is not uncommon for a person’s hobby to become his profession. This means that it is quite possible to master some professions on your own.

To succeed in this matter, you will have to work hard. Most likely, you will need to put in even more effort than when studying at a university or college. The main obstacle may be your own laziness. After all, no one will control you, there will not even be an incentive in the form of getting good grades.

The basis of any profession is knowledge. You can get them from thematic literature, textbooks and from numerous Internet sources. Last option will be even more effective. Unfortunately, the information in the book is not updated. A textbook published several decades ago can still be very useful today. However, a specialist who wants to succeed in his work needs to be aware of the current state of affairs. It's easier to find up-to-date information on the Internet. You can quickly find answers to your questions in numerous thematic articles, blogs, groups social networks and on the forums.

For example, in order to master the computer programs necessary for the work of any designer, it is not necessary to attend the appropriate courses. You can study all the functions of the same Corel Draw, InDesign or PRO100 on the Internet. A beginner in interior design or web design will be able to find detailed, step by step instructions on the use of these programs on special sites. And on forums dedicated to design, you have the opportunity to communicate with more experienced specialists and ask for their advice. The same applies to such professions as layout designer, HTML layout designer, web programmer, content manager, site administrator, etc. But it is worth understanding that it is still necessary to have some basic knowledge and skills in these areas: you need to be good at computers, have artistic taste and abilities.

Theory is undoubtedly important. But without practice, you cannot become a full-fledged specialist. You can thoroughly study modern trends, for example, in the art of floristry, hairdressing and manicure, but without practice, all this knowledge will be useful only for broadening your horizons. It is undoubtedly better to understand the intricacies of a particular craft while working. Let it be by trial and error, but learning a profession by experience will be faster. Therefore, if you decide to master any profession on your own, do not miss the opportunity to watch the work of an already established professional and practice yourself. This can be done, for example, by getting a job in a company as an intern, assistant or junior employee.

Change gender professional activity after 30 years it is quite difficult. Unlike young people, adults are held back from dramatic changes by many factors - economic, family, psychological. You must have a reserve of courage and be prepared for various difficulties in order to decide to start your own career from scratch.

Just a few decades ago, it was customary to choose a profession once and for the rest of your life: society universally approved continuous experience and one single entry in work book. "Flyers" that changed often workplace, were condemned and considered almost losers, and only a few even thought about a radical change of profession after 30-40 years, it was so disapproved.

Career restart is commonplace

In modern realities, for the majority successful people necessary conditions for building a career are self-realization and enjoyment of work achievements. If you feel like it’s time to move to another professional field, you shouldn’t miss the chance to improve your life.

Changing a profession after 40 years is most often associated with the notorious midlife crisis, when a person evaluates his achievements and sums up the interim results of his life. Often at this age we understand that those dreams and aspirations that we had in our youth are no longer feasible (or it just seems so to us).

At this age, people most often begin to understand that old age is no longer an abstract concept that will come “someday later,” but a completely reality that is just around the corner. And a change of profession at this age can occur according to one of two scenarios. The first is to deny the fact of your age and avoid reality. The second is to use your professional significance to gain new experience.

As Mikhail Khors said, when implementing the first scenario, a person does not want to be responsible for his life as an adult. And, contrary common sense, forgetting about responsibility for his family and loved ones, he suddenly suddenly starts everything from scratch. Acts the way teenagers most often behave. Crossing out his past, he tries to arrange his life in a completely different way. He abandons his previous achievements, devalues them, and begins to master a new profession, often losing money in the process. After all, he believes that receiving new role will bring him happiness in life.

Most often, this behavior leads to a person receiving a new portion of negative experiences and disappointments in himself. After all, it turns out that happiness is the ability to rejoice in your achievements, and not denying them. And efficiency is the ability to maximum benefit use for your further development what is already available on this moment connections, experience, knowledge, skills, and not devaluation of these resources.

If a person decides to use his professional achievements to gain new experience, then in this case he builds his new life based on previous professional achievements. It could also be a creation own business in a related field, and horizontal rotation within the same company.

Often, such scenarios lead people to consulting, where you can have completely new functionality, but remain a specialist in an area that you have devoted many years to. Such a person uses existing connections to obtain maximum results in a new activity. Changes of this kind occur gradually, step by step. Most often, there is an action plan and a financial cushion in case of temporary difficulties. Needless to say, moving along this road much more often leads to a feeling of self-realization and self-satisfaction, which is so sought after 40 year olds.

Dreams Come True

Breaking out of a familiar and sometimes well-paid routine, even if it has ceased to bring satisfaction, is more difficult for 30-40 year olds than for young people. And this is quite natural, because having received a new profession in adulthood, a person is faced with the need to build a career anew, and this is not always easy. In this case, you only need to remember that career depends solely on specific person: his activity, potential, desire to learn and develop. And in most cases, it doesn’t matter how old a person is.

Practice shows that in our country everything is possible: thanks to it or in spite of it. You shouldn’t think that changing a profession after 35–40 years is childish. They change their profession both to lower and to increase their status, but there are three main trends. The first is under the code name “For the Soul”. In this case, applicants have the opportunity to receive additional education, and by the age of 30, a person finally finally forms his preferences. They go to work as hairdressers, nail technicians, lawyers, car repairmen, architects, designers.

The second category is closer to 40–45 years. These are people whose work biography began during the perestroika period. They were forced to quit their favorite job because of earnings and are now returning to their specialty. This is the most promising and broad category of applicants with higher education. The third category of applicants changes their profile due to starting their own business. The business profile may or may not coincide with the specialty. The main goal of such “defectors” is to ensure a dignified old age. Usually, average age this group is over 40 years old. Very often, representatives of this group achieve considerable success.

According to Alina Zelikson, the most stable professions, whose representatives very rarely leave for other fields, are the professions of accountants, financiers, economists, builders, actors, journalists, programmers, housing and communal services employees, aviation representatives and music workers.

What to do and what to do?

If you are over 25 years old and are faced with the question of changing your profession, take your time. Try to look at this situation as detachedly and objectively as possible. Look for areas where you can leverage your previous life and professional achievements.

Create insurance capital to minimize your dependence on the financial result in the new professional field. The main thing is not to put off the decision, because professional throwing shakes your nerves and negatively affects your health.

If there is an internal desire for a radically different activity, if something that you have secretly dreamed of for many years is calling you, you should not “tread on the throat of your song.” Go for it! Universal experience shows that you can achieve a lot only if you do what you love.

However, a new profession does not necessarily have to immediately become your only source of income. Do this first at the hobby level, gaining new knowledge and skills “with insurance.” Use the wisdom of the ages, which says that what is done smoothly, gradually, constantly is done well and quickly.

How to master a new profession? Sign up for courses or study on your own? Where to begin?

Now we will not talk about a new specialty that requires higher education. If you are a philologist and want to become a manager or financier, your direct path is to the education system, for knowledge and a diploma. However, there are specialties that can be mastered outside of a university. At the same time, they are very popular; they allow you to either completely change your profession or earn additional income.

For example:
– copywriter;
– SMM manager;
- Content manager;
– SEO specialist;

and some others.

Below I will share one of the possible schemes for mastering a new specialty, which in my case completely justified itself.

Stage 1. Introduction to the specialty.

We read a lot of different information on the Internet. At first, it seems that you are drowning in articles and blogs, you don’t understand anything, and there is less chance of understanding each page you read. Then you begin to grasp the main ideas and slowly understand individual topics. But the feeling of unstructured knowledge still remains. It’s like a house that we are trying to build without a foundation – it seems to be working, but it’s somehow shaky and uncertain. Therefore, at a certain moment, when you feel that you are already “in the know,” you need to move on to stage No. 2.

Stage 2. Laying the foundation.

The foundation means training in courses. What is needed is a completed, structured course. WITH separate topics, which are presented step by step, and preferably with homework. This could also be a series of webinars (seminars). But it is important that these are not isolated topics, but a holistic body of knowledge.

Why not start from this stage?
Because you can learn the basics yourself, and for free. What's the point of paying for knowledge that you can find on your own?
But when you come to the courses already with your “baggage”, you can ask the one who teaches you the right questions. In this case, you pay for knowledge at a deeper level. Asking the right questions is very important. After all, a living person with his own experience will answer you, not Google. Google, of course, knows everything, but it cannot replace live communication with a mentor.

Stage 3. Practice and further digging deeper.

After training, it is much easier to deepen your knowledge: you can already distinguish important information from less important ones, and there is a chance of not drowning in the information flow.
As is known, the most effective training- This is learning supported by practice. Knowledge will depreciate very quickly if it is not used own experience. Therefore, if you have mastered a new specialty, look for a job in this field. Otherwise, your efforts may be in vain.

In addition to practice, it is important to communicate with other specialists in the same field - you can learn useful experience from them.

You can, of course, manage to master a new specialty on your own (with the help of Google and familiar professionals who can act as consultants). But this method is not suitable for everyone, since it requires a significant investment of time and effort. Take advantage of the wealth of knowledge that other people offer. Organize the learning process rationally and get a decent result.
