A do-it-yourself automatic machine made of wood or the story of how I made a Kalashnikov...

I decided to please the son of one of my good friends and make him a wooden toy. To my question: “what should I do?”, my friend answered immediately: “maybe some kind of pestle?” Not a bad idea, I thought, and went into arms production. True, I decided not to waste time on trifles and instead of a “pestle”, make a machine gun right away! Still, no matter how you look at it, every kid knows that a machine gun is cooler than a pistol! :))

I decided to take the legendary Kalashnikov as a basis. I want to say right away for all connoisseurs of modeling and accurate models: the task was, first of all, to make a reliable and strong toy, so I did not try to recreate the machine in all its details, but made a conditional copy!

A thick 50-gauge pine board was chosen as the building material. I just took a pencil and sketched out the outlines of the future machine by hand, using a picture from the Internet as a guide.

I don’t like any kind of nails, brackets, or wires, so I decided to make the trigger out of wood too. It’s more reliable and more pleasant to the touch! :)

I immediately figured out and drew a mounting system for the store. The detail seems small, but very significant, without which the machine gun will not be a machine gun, but just... a fart for kids. After all, if a machine gun has a non-removable magazine, then such a weapon is worthless! :))) The photo below shows prototypes of the future store. :)

Then I cut out the workpiece using an electric jigsaw. The result is a blank like this.

After that, I cut out the side “walls” of the machine gun from thin plywood, covering the mounting location for the magazine.

Once again I looked around the store. For it I used the same board as for the main workpiece.

I sawed out and sharpened the corners with a file so that nothing would touch and the parts could move freely.

Next, on the milling table, I chamfered the butt and handle, so that I could then use a grinder to finish what I started and finally round the corners.

I glued the side walls with PVA glue.

I secured them with clamps and left them to dry.

I went through the corners with a router and in the end I got something that already resembled that same Kalashnikov! :) Then I polished everything with a sander.

Now you can work on the barrel of the machine gun. To do this, I used a cylindrical blank purchased in advance at a hardware store. At the same time, I cut out the barrel part, the front sight and drilled all the necessary holes.

For drilling I used a special drill stand. Without it, making an even and perpendicular hole is a task for those whose hands do not shake and have a diamond eye. I decided to make my life easier and took advantage of this convenient device.

The barrel parts are ready, all that remains is to place them on PVA glue.

All details and dimensions are complete improvisation! I just looked at the drawing of the machine and made it “approximately like in the picture.” In the end, it turned out well. What do they say there? You can't praise yourself...))

I adjusted the magazine and lo and behold, a legendary machine gun appeared in front of me, which turned out to be quite similar to the original. Although there will probably be critics and dissatisfied people, but excuse me, guys, it was possible, it was possible! :))

I know that many would paint the machine the way it should be in the original, I saw how some use black nitro paint, and the wood is almost always covered with a thick layer of varnish. I am a specific person in this matter. Covering the texture of wood with paint and covering up all the tactile sensations it gives with varnish - for me, this is like pasting wallpaper on a beautiful fresco! :)) But in no case do I pretend to be the ultimate truth, everyone does as they see fit, according to their own understanding and taste! :)

There's just one small detail left to secure the magazine. For this I used small magnets. Since I didn’t have specially purchased ones on hand, I took them out of an old children’s construction set, from which my children only had a couple of parts. The rest was lost somewhere.

Children often ask their parents to make them some kind of toy from wood. The boys demand that weapons be made for them, with which they could continue endless backyard “wars.” The best option for a child there will be a wooden replica of the 47th How to make an AK-47 from wood? If you have the right tool, even a beginner can cope with this task. Information on how to make an AK-47 from wood with your own hands is presented in the article.

Where to begin?

For anyone who is interested in how to make an AK-47 from wood, craftsmen recommend that you first of all acquire high-quality raw materials. The product will be reliable and strong if you use a pine board with a thickness of at least 50 mm. In addition, you need to have a corresponding drawing.

About production

All elements of the machine are made of wood. For those who don’t know how to make an AK-47 out of wood so that the dummy looks as realistic as possible, experienced craftsmen recommend equipping the product with a detachable magazine. The blank of the future product is cut out of the board using a jigsaw. For the side walls of the machine you will need two sheets of plywood. In the future, they will cover the magazine mount. It can be made from the same board as the dummy machine gun. The movement of the magazine in the fastening mechanism will be carried out without delay if all the corners are carefully ground in it using a file and then a grinding machine. PVA is suitable for gluing the side walls. The process can be optimized using a tool such as clamps. Securely fastened parts to be joined should be left to dry for several hours.

About the dummy barrel

For this element you will need a cylindrical blank. You can make it yourself on a lathe or purchase a ready-made product in a store. The barrel must be equipped with a front sight. You will have to cut it out of wood yourself. In addition, the stock must be equipped with holes for the muzzle of the machine gun. They will turn out smooth if you work on a special drill stand. After the bore holes are ready, cylindrical blanks are inserted into them. Then the already turned and carefully sanded front sight is glued to the barrel using PVA.

About painting work

In addition to the question of how to make an AK-47 from wood, many are also interested in what paint is best to coat the finished product. The dummy will look very realistic, experts advise, if oak-colored paint is applied to it.

It is made on a water basis. The dummy painted black also looks good. Some craftsmen also coat their products with varnish on top of the nitro paint.

The legendary machine gun of all times - AK 47 made of paper.

Well, it’s time to arm yourself with a worthy weapon, the pride of our vast homeland - the AK 47 assault rifle (Kalashnikov assault rifle). You have the opportunity to glue together a deadly AK 47 with your own hands and put the entire dean’s office, school, office, neighbors on their ears... emphasize what is necessary. And if the machine is further strengthened and painted, then it will be an absolute blast!

A paper development of an AK 47 assault rifle takes 10 pages in pepakura and is not so difficult to assemble compared to its analogues. Although there is something to bend over with tweezers at the ready. This copy is a must-have for all weapon connoisseurs.

We are glad to present you another version of the Kalashnikov assault rifle made from paper. This time it came to us from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The model has its own characteristics and is even visually slightly different from the first version. It takes up 12 pages, but is 7 cm shorter than the first one. For many, making this version of the Kalashnikov assault rifle with your own hands will not only be easier, but also better due to the good textures.

“How could you go to Izhevsk and not tell anything about Kalashnikov?” - you ask me. The Kalashnikov is probably one of the most famous assault rifles in the world and a symbol with which Russia is associated along with vodka, the bear and the balalaika. Kalashnikov is on the flags and coats of arms of some countries, he constantly appears in movies and computer games. Kalashnikovs are made in dozens of factories around the world. But Izhevsk remains the birthplace of the famous machine gun.

I went to the Izhmash plant and saw how the legendary Kalashnikov assault rifle was made. Not so long ago, Izhmash was going through difficult times, but now things have gotten better. In 2014, the Kalashnikov concern, as NPO Izhmash is now called, received a net profit from production activities in the amount of 94 million rubles, and this happened despite the sanctions imposed on the enterprise.

It turns out that before the sanctions, Kalashnikov supplied almost 80% of its products to the US market; these were civilian weapons. The volume of supplies of Saiga carbines and other types of civilian weapons to the United States was indeed impressive. Here's a 2012 article that says US citizens are buying as many "Kalashnikov-type" weapons as Russian army and the police. And “Saiga” is bought, for example, by former US Marines, who, in combat conditions, sometimes prefer captured Kalashnikov assault rifles to their M-16s.

It was sanctions that stopped the migration of Saiga carbines to the United States. By the way, this measure provoked a boom in sales of Russian weapons on the American continent. Moreover, in January 2015, the head of the American arms importer RWC, Thomas McCrossin, said that the company intends to begin production of Kalashnikov assault rifles in the United States under the AK-47 brand. The Kalashnikov Concern, it seems, did not object, considering this step quite logical under the conditions of sanctions. RWC is going to buy a license from a Bulgarian manufacturer, which is still in Soviet times received it from the USSR.

General Director of the Kalashnikov Concern Alexey Krivoruchko says that just a year ago, 80 percent of the weapons produced by the Izhevsk plant were civilian. But after the largest “civilian” one was banned, the concern increased the production of military weapons. The main consumers were Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia And Latin America. As a result, for last year Kalashnikov increased production volumes small arms from 70 thousand (2013) to 120 thousand units and reoriented production: now 80% of the weapons produced here are military. Currently, Kalashnikov is developing another 40 types of small arms of various calibers and plans to introduce some of them this year.

Let's take a walk around the legendary Izhevsk plant and see how and what kind of weapons are produced here.

There is nothing unusual in the production of weapons. First they do individual elements, then all this is assembled into a machine gun or, for example, an air cannon. This is how molds are made for casting some parts. These models are made from a model composition (paraffin, stearin and something else). Then the models are assembled into blocks.

A suspension is applied to the block, sprinkled with sand and dried, resulting in a ceramic form like this. Then a model is smelted from it and steel is poured.

Finished parts then need to be cleaned manually. Everything is nice and homely.

In furnaces, parts are heated to a certain temperature, as a result of which the structure of the material and its hardness change.

And this is a “salt” heat treatment bath. Parts are lowered into hot salt.

Etching line. When weapon parts undergo heat treatment, a glow appears on them. This heat is removed using chemicals. The etching line is already new.

The old workshops look like this.

Look how emotional everything was at the factory. Flowers, posters, tea with candies.

Now the plant is being modernized. New workshops are appearing, a large central warehouse is being built. New machines appeared here in December 2014. Now there will be no cacti.

There was also trouble with the machines. Due to sanctions, the number of countries that can supply us with equipment has been greatly reduced. Kalashnikov is going to reorient itself to domestic and Asian manufacturers.

By the way, pay attention to the charming hanger and the bag of strawberries!

Kalashnikov initially planned to spend 5 billion rubles on investments, but due to the weakening of the ruble, at least 6 billion rubles will have to be invested in modernization. The investment program should be completed in 2017.

By 2020, Kalashnikov is going to increase the volume of products and gross revenue by 3 times and at the same time reduce the cost of products by half.

Now the plant looks like a large construction site. Moreover, repairs and modernization occur in parallel with production. In some workshops, floors and walls are being repaired at the same time, in others a new roof is being installed and new ceilings are being made.

Behind the screen there is a renovation going on, but nearby they continue to make some parts.

Let's move on to assembly! Pressing the box with the barrel is called “wedding”.

There are several production streams: mass products - military products and civilian weapons based on the Kalashnikov assault rifle, sniper rifles and Tiger guns based on the sniper rifle. By the way, the weapons that are named after animals are called “our menagerie” by plant employees.

The flows are organized in different ways: in the first case it is a conveyor, in the second there is a multi-batch assembly, that is, each product is assembled by one person.

During the production process, a machine gun or other weapon goes through a number of control points. Three at launch, seven at release, plus after each operation. In the case of military products, for example, the interchangeability of parts is checked.

At one site, sporting and hunting weapons are produced (carbines “Los”, “Bars”, etc.) and sniper rifle SV-98.

Despite the modernization of equipment, the assembly principle will remain the same, with a considerable share of manual labor.

After the “wedding”, the product is sent “for coating”, and from there – for final assembly. A cover, butt, fore-end, handle, etc. are attached to the barrel and box.

Area with aircraft cannons. This type of weapon is produced only here, at the Izhevsk plant. The rate of fire of the guns that are installed on Russian helicopters and airplanes is up to 1,800 rounds per minute.

The plant produces about 120 thousand units of small arms per year, in flow - about 500 units per day. This is not a full download. Initially, the plant was designed to produce 600 thousand weapons. In the coming years, the plant plans to master the production of new lines and increase production to 300 thousand units per year.

This year the company intends to produce 20-25% more weapons than last year (120 thousand in 2014).

The most popular type of weapon produced at the plant among buyers is still the Kalashnikov assault rifle. Among civilian products, the greatest demand is for “Tigers” and other representatives of the so-called “menagerie” - “Leopards”, “Moose”, “Wapit”, etc.

A 10-minute drive from the plant is a center where weapons are tested.

The classic Kalashnikov assault rifle has long been obsolete. Weapons are constantly being modernized. This is due, among other things, to the fact that 70% of military clashes take place in dark time days. Therefore, a modern machine gun should be convenient for night combat.

This is how a Picattini rail appeared on the Kalashnikov assault rifle, on which you can install a collimator sight, allowing shooting at night, as well as a tactical flashlight and target designator. In addition, the machine gun was equipped with a flame arrester, which will not give away the location of the fighter when fired.

The plant made a “body kit” for the machine gun, that is, a modernization kit, only this year. A pistol grip appeared. The stock is folding and telescopic. Any shooter can customize such a machine gun to suit himself.

But there is also a completely new machine gun - the AK-12. It no longer requires modernization, it is lighter and more accurate than old version Kalashnikov. All the necessary elements are already on it. The pistol grip, quick magazine release and new safety allow you to fire with one hand while performing the necessary manipulations with the weapon with the other.

The AK-12 is now completing state tests and, most likely, will be put into service this year. In January 2015, the Ministry of Defense selected the AK-12 assault rifle as the main small arms, which will become part of the “Ratnik” equipment of the serviceman. Already this year, the Russian army may receive up to 70 thousand samples of “Warrior”.

Submachine gun 19-01 “Vityaz-SN”

"Saiga" 12 version 340

The Saiga carbine has MK. 107 is a fundamentally new balanced automation system. As I was told, this weapon has no recoil at all. Usually the frame of the machine gun pushes the shooter in the shoulder, but this carbine has a balancer installed that instantly goes towards it. When they collide, recoil compensation occurs. “It would seem that there are springs, two bars, but no one else in the world has created such a weapon. We now want to place special emphasis on this weapon. In the world of small arms, this is not just a novelty, but, one might say, a sensation.”

While this is an experimental sample, designers are now working on the weapon. Next week the plant will receive two new samples and will go with them to Hungary for the European Practical Shooting Championships and then, perhaps, make some other changes to the design. Already this year, Kalashnikov wants to begin serial production of this carbine.

You can even shoot with one hand. When firing, the barrel of the carbine remains motionless, which naturally increases the accuracy of fire.

Well? Are you proud of Russia?
