Often Russian speakers are perceived inadequately due to literal translation folk wisdom. In fact, which English-speaking citizen will correctly decipher the phrase “life is in full swing”?

The meaning of phraseology in Russia is known to small children, but gentlemen from Europe immediately imagine a stern man with a construction tool in his hands, who has already raised his hand to strike. And they immediately understand: we are talking about the difficult fate of people in the post-Soviet space who are forced to fight for a piece of bread. How to convey the true meaning?

How can you hit?

Break the phrase down into its components to understand each piece step by step. Explain the meaning of the phraseological unit “to burst into flames” through a verb. It's much easier this way.

What are the meanings of the word “beat”? Experts give long list which can be boiled down to five points:

    to strike, fight, defeat and/or kill;

    grind some objects;

    make sounds, beating out a tune;

    create something - as a professional term;

    break through with force.

Each unit of Russian speech has multiple meanings. It's easy to get confused if you don't have the proper skill and good vocabulary. To do right choice, let's turn to the noun.

How to select keys?

If you try, you can easily determine the meaning of phraseological units. “Beating with the key” is a very convenient combination for analysis, built on a play of meanings. What do most transcripts have in common? A key is a phenomenon or object both for opening and for solving or even working something:

    to the door lock;

    for strengthening and screwing;

    to solve the mystery;

    important military installation;

    switch for closing the electrical circuit;

    character of performance, manner of speech;

    a sign that determines the pitch of notes;

    apex stone.

And all this does not fit, because the meaning of the traditional phraseological unit “to burst forth” is given by an ordinary spring. Groundwater comes to the surface in a small stream or fountain, filling the natural unevenness of the area.

How to understand the phrase?

It's about about water that comes out of the ground. A natural and understandable phenomenon: there are plenty of holy springs and places to quench your thirst in every tourist corner of the world. Phraseological units work in comparison with them. The meaning of “to hit the key” takes on completely different meanings, depending on the context. When talking about life, they mean fullness bright events when something unusual happens every moment.

At the same time, the emphasis is not always placed on positive phenomena. The phrase is often used ironically. Everyone still talks about the cycle of events, but at the same time they note their skeptical attitude towards them. For example, in a discussion of a mutual friend who quarrels every day and immediately makes peace with a young man under the disapproving glances of others. Her bubbly personal life managed to torment all her relatives and friends.

How to use?

You are absolutely free to choose. Life, emotions, even money - everything can be in full swing. The meaning of the phraseological unit is vague, suitable for most situations. Speak seriously or in a humorous tone, in person or when speaking to a large audience. There are no offensive or disapproving connotations, so you won't offend anyone without meaning to. A beautiful speech with flowery turns of phrase will only win over readers and listeners.

To be in full swing is a very energetic expression and here's why. Our ancestors noticed long ago that water, by the force of its movement, can provide energy. In this case I do not mean electricity. A mill whose millstones are driven by water.

Water flows can be turbulent, active, and strong. It is very difficult to cross them. Our ancestors respected and valued water. She was literally the source of life. Please note - the first settlements were built near water. This is not only a source of drinking (wells were usually dug for this), but also a faster way of movement (they swam along it and it was more convenient and took less time to travel).

Our ancestors not only built wells in a convenient place, they did it where there was “living” water, that is, tasty and healthy.

All these factors support the theory that The expression “to burst forth” is the result of an observation by our ancestors.

It means:

  • increased vital activity
  • the desire to constantly move, do something, strive for something
  • about a person (usually a child) who cannot sit quietly in one place for even a minute
  • about a society (for example, a school) in which something is constantly happening - reforms, events, innovations, etc.

Very often you can hear the expression - energy is in full swing.
